The National Resistance Movement (NRM) LC III’s chairpersons’ primary election has attracted staggering 50 candidates vying for flag bearers of the fifteen lower local government units, essential for grass root service delivery.

Prisca Unegiu, the Zombo district NRM registrar, revealed this development to our journalists after a harmonization meeting held with candidates and security officials on Sunday 10th August 2025.

Speaking during the meeting, Unegiu used stern warning to the candidates and their supporters to desist from relying on unauthorized results from polling stations.

“Don’t encourage relying on unofficial results in the community but everybody who will win will sign the declaration form district declaration officer at the end of the process.” Unegiu implored the candidates

She encouraged the candidates to promote unity throughout their campaign period which commenced days ago till the election date slated for Thursday 14th August 2025.

Dickson Pithua Kenedy, the interim NRM Chairperson for Zombo, urged candidates to deploy their agents across all polling stations to ensure accurate reporting and mitigate electoral discrepancies.

Pithua has equally cautioned the public against relying on unofficial results disseminated by their agents via social media platforms.

Ora County MP, Lawrance Biyika Songa, for his part has rallied the voters to elect those who have the ability and capacity to serve the community with dedication.

However, candidates including the LCIII chairperson of Padea town council Melki Onyutha Orwothuwun and Mazu Ubia Silverfield Rwothomio, candidate for Alangi sub county rallied party members to actively participate in the forthcoming exercise.

The parish councillors are equally being voted on the same date.

This exercise is therefore internal in the entire county as the NRM intend to choose their best candidates in town councils, municipalities and cities’ divisions and sub-counties who will thereafter face opposition candidates in general elections in 2026.
