Mounting outcry has continued to worry Zombo district residents following targeted destruction of campaign posters as the nomination and campaign commences across the country for general election slated for January 2026.

The situation was worse on Saturday 11th October 2025, when president Museveni was campaigning at Zombo Upper primary school playgrounds in Zombo town council when an unconfirmed number of goons purportedly supporting NRM flag bearers destroyed a number of posters of those vying for MP bid on independent tickets.

These hoodlums carried a broad day of havoc in the heart of Zombo town council removing and burning to arches campaign posters for former State Minister for Energy. Eng. Simon Giu D’Ujanga and Vincent Ocaya Orach.

In a similar scenario a number of posters of the incumbent MP for Ora county in Zombo district, Lawrance Biyika Songa were equally destroyed in Warr town council and Atyak sub-county allegedly by these maniacs.

This has caused a glaring violent image on the political atmosphere of Zombo district as the campaign gears up, hence casting deep shadow of tense uproars and derailing the principle of democracy and multi-party political dispensation.

Several right thinking citizens have poured solidarity messages and condemned the outrageous behavior of these goons and those instigating violent environments during this electioneering period calling for fair grounds be provided to all candidates irrespective of political affiliation.

A number of candidates’ supporters have taken to social media especially WhatsApp groups to share their feelings and seek clarifications from the NRM party leaders in Zombo district and security authorities.

In an interview with Eng. D’Ujanga, he expressed disappointment about this unlawful intentional act adding that he has no grudge with the NRM party as a loyal cadre who has served the country at a capacity of a minister and various capacities.

He has attributed this criminal act being committed by some individuals against his current political ambition to serve the people of Okoro county again once given mandate by electorates.

MP Songa for his part encouraged the electorate to exercise their democratic will and vote him based on his ability to represent the people in Parliament for better service delivery.

Songa who doubles as chairperson of climate change committee has been vibrant in bringing climate resilient infrastructures in Zombo district including bridges on River Namthin, River Ora, River Fada, roads and pipe water projects among others.

On the other hand, Eng. D’Ujanga has been Chief architect and brain behind electricity generation and supply in the West Nile region compelling voters to request him to represent them again in the next parliament.

Just a couple of days ago the woman MP for Zombo district who doubled as commissioner in parliament Esther Afoyocan, told our journalist that her posters have been raised down and taken away by a section of heartless goons.

Afoyocan urged the youth to desist from being used for criminal behaviors.

While campaigning for president Museveni in Zombo district, Richard Todwong the NRM Secretary General and Denis Hamson Ubua, the NRM national vice Chairman Northern Uganda pronounced that all flagbearers should support members by campaigning for one another.

During his campaign in Zombo and Nebbi district president Museveni and First Land Jannet Museveni Katah called for peace, unity development and protecting the gains achieved by the government.
