A tragic accident on the Nebbi-Arua City highway claimed a life this morning at approximately 7:35 AM, prompting an immediate investigation by the Arua Central Police Traffic Office.

The collision occurred in Awindiri Cell, Arua City Central Division, involving a yellow and green Isuzu bus (Reg. UBF 182W), operated by Nile Star Bus Company and driven by Ochungi Hamidu, and a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle (Reg. UFW 068Q), ridden by Alioma Robert.

Details of the bus passengers remain unconfirmed.

SPONSORED ADVERTISEMENTPreliminary reports indicate the bus was traveling from Kampala to Arua when it collided with the motorcycle, which was heading toward Awindiri from Arua City.

According to SSP Josephine Angucia, West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson, the motorcyclist allegedly made a reckless abrupt right turn, crossing into the path of the oncoming bus, resulting in the fatal crash.

Arua traffic police responded swiftly, securing the scene and towing both vehicles to Arua Police Station for inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV).

A sketch plan of the incident was drawn, and the injured were rushed to Arua Regional Referral Hospital for treatment.

 Sadly, the motorcyclist succumbed to injuries, marking the incident as fatal.

SSP Angucia emphasized the need for heightened road safety, urging motorcyclists to remain vigilant and avoid dangerous maneuvers, such as abrupt turns on busy highways.

“Reckless riding was the primary cause of this tragedy,” she stated, calling for greater caution to prevent future accidents.
