On behalf of National Executive Committee (NEC), the Democratic Party (DP) President Norbert Mao officially endorsed the candidature of Sarah Adong, a prospective candidate for woman member of parliament, Zombo district in the 2026 general election.

The endorsement took place this week at the DP Party headquarters located along Balintuma road in capital Kampala.

Adong is also President DP Women’s League and capable of competing for Zombo district woman MP race in the forthcoming election.

Adong is a reknown journalist with a track record, especially in sports reporting and vibrant member of DP party who rose as a national leader.

In the 2021, Adong competed in general elections and emerged runner up with over 17000 votes, this is placing her as the major competitor to the incumbent woman MP for Zombo district, Esther Afoyocan who doubled as commissioner in parliament.

Notable for 2026 woman MP race in Zombo district is also Topista Acamfua who has entered the political scene during the recent NRM primary election pulling swarth of supporters emerging equally second runner up.

She challenged the NRM internal party election results in the NRM election tribunal but lost her bid and now plans to appear on the ballot paper on independent ticket.

The nominations for MPs race will kick off on Wednesday 22nd October 2025 across the country.
