NEBBI: Schools under Jonam Archdeaconry in the Nebbi Anglican Diocese have achieved outstanding results in the 2025 Primary 7 (P.7) and Primary 6 (P.6) mock examinations, surpassing other archdeaconries including Goli Central, Ukuru, Padyere, Nebbi Urban, and Alala.

On Tuesday, October 21, 2025, the Diocese released results marking a significant milestone for its education initiatives. Social Studies was the top-performing subject, followed by Science, English, and Mathematics, with boys outperforming girls.

A record 5,542 learners from 68 Church of Uganda-founded schools participated in the examinations, a historic achievement for the Diocese since its establishment in 1993, when it was carved out from the Madi and West Nile Diocese.

Initiated in 2022 under the leadership of Bishop Rt. Rev. Pons Ozelle and Diocesan Education Coordinator Stanley Olama Umani, these mock examinations aim to prepare Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) candidates, foster unity within the education fraternity, and address the persistently poor academic performance in the Greater Nebbi Subregion.

Challenges such as poverty, lack of parental involvement, social factors, crumbling infrastructure, and negative attitudes toward education have historically hindered academic outcomes in the region.

The results, announced at the Nebbi Anglican Diocese Headquarters, saw Jonam Archdeaconry lead with a 34.4% pass rate (870 enrolled, 185 passed), followed by:Goli Central Archdeaconry – 20.8% pass rate (526 enrolled, 88 passed)

Ukuru Archdeaconry – 18.1% pass rate (458 enrolled, 42 passed)

Padyere Archdeaconry – 11% pass rate (278 enrolled, 59 passed)

Nebbi Urban Archdeaconry – 9.5% pass rate (240 enrolled, 52 passed)

Alala Archdeaconry – 6% pass rate (153 enrolled, 24 passed)

The leading schools in the P.7 mock examinations were:

1. Acres of Hope
2. Pajobi Primary School
3. Agwok Primary School
4. River View Primary School
5. Paidha Model Primary School

Standout Performers

Aparwoth Liz from Pajobi Primary School topped the P.7 mock examinations with an aggregate of 6, followed closely by Ocungirwoth Joseph, also from Pajobi, with an aggregate of 7. 

In the P.6 examinations, Mungudit Chrispus from Pajobi Primary School and Yioyic Malcom from Acres of Hope were the top-performing boy and girl, respectively.

Aparwoth Liz attributed her success to prayer, hard work, and discipline, while Ocungirwoth Joseph credited prayer, diligence, and consultations with teachers.

Mr. Bedijo Joel, Headteacher of Pajobi Primary School, emphasized the importance of purpose-driven teaching and the dedication of committed educators in achieving these results.

Speaking at the results announcement, Very Rev. Can Ephraim Jagen, Dean of St. Stephens Cathedral, representing the Bishop of Nebbi Diocese, highlighted the inclusive nature of the examinations.

“This examination is not only for Anglicans but for all foundation body schools who wish to participate,” he said, adding, “We welcome all schools to join us in promoting academic excellence and unity in the education fraternity.”

The Diocesan Examinations Committee identified challenges such as poor handwriting, delayed payments by some schools, and underperformance in certain subjects. To address these, the committee recommended increased internal assessments, comprehensive syllabus coverage, and professional development for upper primary teachers.

With the Primary Leaving Examinations approaching, the Nebbi Anglican Diocese Education Committee is setting a high standard for future assessments. Plans are underway to introduce additional prizes and expand the examinations to include Primary 5 learners in 2026.

The Greater Nebbi Subregion, which consistently struggles with poor performance in national examinations, stands to benefit significantly from this initiative.

The best performers receive their gifts from Diocesan officials.

Stakeholders are optimistic that, with widespread support, this program will drive long-term improvements in academic outcomes across primary and secondary education levels.
