Moyo: Police in Moyo District are investigating a violent robbery carried out by four armed men suspected to have crossed into Uganda from South Sudan.

According to reports, the incident happened on November 1, 2025, at around 8:06 p.m. in Maringu East Cell, Lefori Town Council, Moyo District. Witnesses say the attackers fired several gunshots, sending residents running for safety before raiding local shops.

SP Collins Asea, the North West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident in an official statement.

“Our preliminary findings show that four unidentified men, armed with three rifles, are believed to have crossed into Moyo from South Sudan,” SP Asea said. “They discharged live bullets, causing panic in the area, before storming one of the shops and making away with smartphones and cash.”

Police investigators recovered several cartridge cases from the scene, which has since been secured for forensic analysis.

Asea added that a joint security operation is underway to track down the suspects.

“Our officers, with support from a sister force, are pursuing the culprits. We urge anyone with credible information to report to the nearest police station. Residents are advised to remain calm as investigations continue,” he said.

The attack has sparked renewed concerns over cross-border insecurity along the Uganda–South Sudan border, with authorities emphasizing the need for stronger surveillance and community vigilance.
