A wave of shock has engulfed residents of Nebbi Municipality and Paidha Town Council in Zombo District after a deadly road crash at around 6 p.m. claimed the lives of two people on the spot, leaving one person hospitalised.

The Monday, November 3, 2025 tragic incident happened at Ucegu Central, Karanyom, Namrwodhu Ward, Thatha Division, Nebbi Municipality, along the Nebbi-Pakwach Highway.

The two, both riding different motorcycles, died on the spot as one was travelling towards Nebbi Town while the other was heading towards Nyaravur, local leaders and eyewitnesses say.

The deceased have been identified as Pimundu Alex, a member of Paidha Brokers Association attached to China Stage, and one only identified as Toskin, also from Paidha Town Council.

A survivor only identified as Rogers, a son to Nebbi Municipality Mayor Geoffrey Ngiriker who was being carried by one of the deceased riders, is receiving treatment at Nebbi General Hospital.

Geoffrey Ngiriker, the Mayor of Nebbi Municipality, confirmed the incident to this publication, saying: “Two people died on the spot and their bodies are at Nebbi General Hospital Mortuary as I talk now,” adding, “preliminary reports indicate that there was a head-on collision as one motorcyclist wanted to overtake a trailer.”

Ngiriker, whilst speaking to this publication in a telephone interview from Nebbi General Hospital, disclosed that one of the persons, who is his son, survived the crash with serious injuries and is now receiving treatment at Nebbi General Hospital.

“The only survivor in this crash is my son called Rogers that I’m attending to at Nebbi General Hospital,” Ngiriker said.

This accident has sent shocking news and graphic photos of the deceased on social media.

Herbert Limthum, a resident of Alengukuma Cell, Central Ward, a friend to one of the deceased, Pimundu Alex, described the incident as “shocking and unbelievable. Pimundu was a great friend with whom I worked for long when I was a member of Boda Boda Association here in town.”

The bodies of the two are currently at Nebbi General Hospital for autopsy.

By press time, police from Nebbi Central Police Station had visited the scene to document this heart-wrenching occurrence.

According to the Uganda Police Force Annual Crime Report for 2024, while there has been a 19.2% reduction in common traffic offences, falling from 528,025 cases in 2023 to 426,432 in 2024, the number of road traffic crashes has increased by 6.4%, and casualties have risen by 4.4%.

Detailed analysis shows that the peak period for road incidents is between 18:00 and 19:59, during which 3,780 crashes were recorded.

The report also states that around 14 people perish due to road crashes daily.
