Police in Arua City have recovered 27 numberless and unregistered motorcycles in an early morning intelligence-led operation on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.

According to a statement issued by West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson SSP Josephine Angucia, the operation began around 6:00 a.m. when officers, accompanied by a suspect in custody, moved to the parking yard of Hidmola Hotel along Lemerujua Road in Obolokofuku Cell, Central Ward.

The suspect had allegedly kept one suspected stolen motorcycle at the location.

Upon recovering the initial motorcycle, the suspect pointed out additional suspected stolen motorcycles within the same parking yard. Given the large number of unregistered motorcycles present, police impounded a total of 27 numberless motorcycles.

All the recovered motorcycles have been transported to Arua City Central Business Division Police Station, where they are parked at the police yard pending verification and further investigations.

West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson SSP Josephine Angucia confirmed that a General Enquiry File (GEF 088/2026) has been opened.

The proprietor and manager of the hotel premises have recorded statements to assist in the ongoing probe, Angucia stated.

Many members of the public whose motorcycles were previously stolen have since visited the police yard to cross-check if their property is among those recovered.

“More operations are going on as inquiries continue under Arua City Central Business Division GEF 088/2026,” SSP Angucia said.

“We encourage the general public to continue sharing information with Police so as to recover more suspected stolen items and bring criminals before the law.”
