Territorial police in Ayivu East Division, Arua City have arrested the biological parents of a two-month-old baby girl in connection with her murder on Sunday, June 22, 2026.
The deceased, identified as Naweza Macline, a female juvenile aged two months, was found dead at Rubu Nyai cell, former Aroi Sub-county in Ayivu East Division, Arua City.
The arrested suspects are Dradeyo Samuel and Draduyo Comfort, both residents of the same cell and the biological parents of the baby.
West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson SSP Josephine Angucia confirmed the incident.
According to Angucia, the mother had left the baby sleeping on a mattress in the bedroom with the father at home and went to the garden to fetch greens for lunch. Upon returning after about one hour, she found neither the baby nor the father in the house.
She raised an alarm, prompting neighbours to join in the search. The baby was later discovered inside a green bucket normally used for storing drinking water in the house. The infant’s head was pointing downwards with legs up, and there were bruises around her neck. The bucket contained no water.
Police visited the scene, examined and documented it, recovered the body, and conveyed it to Arua Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem.
Relevant statements were recorded to aid investigations.
A case of murder has been registered under Ayivu East Division CRB 108/26.
The two parents were arrested and taken to Ayivu East Division Police Station but were later released on police bond following a request by the community.
They are required to first bury their baby and report back to police on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, for further investigations.
Police have urged community members to remain calm and cooperate by providing any relevant information to support the ongoing investigations.
