Hundreds Converge for Thanksgiving Ceremony of Zombo Woman MP Topista Acamfua
By Zoomer Africa
Hundreds of people have converged at Ukemu Primary School playground in Warr Town Council, Zombo District, for a thanksgiving ceremony organised by Zombo District Woman Member of Parliament Topista Acamfua.
The ceremony has attracted several dignitaries, including State Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs Huda Oleru, Members of Parliament, local government leaders and other invited guests.
The thanksgiving gathering follows Acamfua’s victory in the January 15, 2026, general elections, in which she was elected Zombo District Woman MP on an independent ticket, defeating the incumbent, Esther Afoyochan, who contested on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket.
Acamfua had earlier contested in the NRM party primaries but lost the party flag, prompting her to seek the parliamentary seat as an independent candidate. She won with more than 25,000 votes against Afoyochan’s 22,033 votes.
She is among the independent MPs who later declared support for the ruling NRM government in February 2026.
The thanksgiving ceremony has brought together political leaders, supporters and residents to celebrate her election victory and give thanks for the successful conclusion of the electoral process, described by many as the most fiercely contested race in the history of the Zombo since it's creation in 2011.
