Charity Lenia Joins NRM CEC as Museveni Reshuffles Party's Top Leadership
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, in his capacity as National Resistance Movement (NRM) National Chairman, has reshuffled the party's top decision-making organ, the Central Executive Committee (CEC), bringing back experienced party stalwarts while elevating first-term legislator Hon. Charity Lenia to the influential leadership body.

During a CEC meeting held at State House, Entebbe, on Friday, members approved four of the five nominees presented by the party chairman. The approved appointees are former Prime Minister Dr.

Ruhakana Rugunda, veteran politician Magode Ikuya, former Makerere University Business School Principal Prof. Waswa Balunywa, and Hon. Charity Lenia, the Member of Parliament for Vurra County in Arua District.

Hon. Charity Lenia's appointment marks a significant milestone for both West Nile and the NRM, making her one of the youngest leaders entrusted with shaping the party's strategic direction at the highest level. Her elevation has been widely viewed as recognition of emerging leadership and the party's commitment to nurturing a new generation of leaders.

The return of Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, one of Uganda's longest-serving public servants, underscores the continued confidence the NRM places in experienced leaders.

Rugunda previously served as Prime Minister from 2014 to 2021 and has held several key national and international positions, including Minister of Internal Affairs, Minister of Health, and Uganda's Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

The appointment of Prof. Waswa Balunywa introduces one of Uganda's most respected academics and management experts into the party's top leadership, while the return of Magode Ikuya strengthens the presence of veteran political figures within the CEC.

The latest reshuffle reflects President Museveni's strategy of blending experienced leadership with youthful representation as the ruling party positions itself for future political and organizational priorities.
