A fatal road traffic collision occurred at the Asil Petrol Station junction on Onduparaka Road, Arua City, at approximately 7:00 PM , resulting in one fatality and one injury, as detailed in the Central Police Station (CPS) Arua City Traffic Accident Report (TAR 77/2025, TSD 12/24/04/2025).

West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson SP Collins Asea confirmed the incident, stating, "The collision involved a red TVS motorcycle (UGE 755C), operated by Shaban Safi, 29, and a white Isuzu vehicle (UBL 097B), driven by an unidentified motorist who absconded from the scene."

According to the preliminary investigation, Safi was traveling on Onduparaka Road toward Arua City with a 14-year-old passenger, Shafik Muzamil, when the Isuzu, proceeding in the opposite direction, executed an abrupt and negligent right turn at the junction.

The maneuver resulted in a head-on collision with the motorcycle, which had the right of way.

Emergency medical services transported both victims to a local medical facility. Safi succumbed to his injuries during treatment, while Muzamil sustained serious injuries and remains under medical care.

The deceased was conveyed to Arua City Mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Traffic Officer PC Nakoba Allen (No. 56372) responded to the scene, where both vehicles were seized and towed to the CPS Arua City police yard for mechanical inspection.

Authorities are actively investigating to apprehend the fleeing Isuzu driver and establish further circumstances surrounding the incident.

This incident follows another fatal road traffic collision on Onduparaka Road in Oria-Adumi Cell, Ayivu West Division, Arua City, on Easter Sunday, which claimed the lives of two young males.

According to the 2024 Uganda Police Annual Crime Report, road traffic fatalities increased to 5,144 in 2024 from 4,806 in 2023. Serious injuries from road traffic collisions totaled 17,013 in 2024, with reported collisions rising by 6.4%, from 23,608 in 2023 to 25,107 in 2024.
