A significant security incident unfolded today at 13:30 hrs in Ofua1 Cina Village when a police officer responding to a reported theft was ambushed and violently attacked. 

Police say the incident was triggered by a report from Mr. Gala Peter, who discovered his generator, valued at 3.4 million shillings, stolen from his shop on June 13, 2025.

The officer, accompanied by Mr. Gala Peter, proceeded to Ofua1 to recover the stolen generator. Upon arrival, they were confronted by a group of assailants who launched a coordinated attack.

West Nile regional police spokesperson SP Collins Asea confirmed the incident in a statement, saying the officer was beaten and stabbed with an 'apanga' knife, forcing a tactical retreat.

Asea added that , the perpetrators seized the officer’s motorcycle and a wallet containing 680,000 shillings.

A civilian, Abeku Robert, who attempted to assist, was also severely assaulted.

The injured officer is receiving medical treatment at Uriama Health Center III, and Abeku Robert has been issued a P3 medical report for his injuries.

Asea explained that through rapid response and collaboration between the Officer-in-Charge of Ofua and local community leaders, the stolen motorcycle and a related component (hand calf) were successfully recovered.

The Terego Central Police Station (CPS) has identified Muse, Ayikobua, and others as suspects in this aggravated robbery and assault.

Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation, leveraging forensic and witness evidence to ensure justice.

The public will receive updates as the investigation progresses.

Police have issued a directive to the community, emphasizing the importance of non-interference with officers executing their duties. Such actions undermine operational security and public safety.
