Zombo District LCV Chairperson James Oruna Oyullu clinched the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Primaries for the 2026 general elections in the Thursday, July 24, 2025, primaries, with many incumbent councilors also retaining their party endorsements.

At 7:53 PM, Zombo NRM Registrar Prisca Unegiu announced results from the district’s 752 polling stations at the tally center in Zombo District Headquarters. 

Incumbent James Oruna Oyullu secured 24,826 votes (70.4%) against challenger John Orwiny’s 10,422 votes (29.6%).

Zombo’s Resident District Commissioner, Festus Ayikobua, commended all candidates and urged voters to remain united, discouraging divisive rhetoric.

“With 15 sub-counties and 752 polling stations, the final tally is: Oyullu Oruna James with 24,826 votes (70.4%), and Orwiny John with 10,422 votes (29.6%). I hereby declare Oyullu Oruna James, having garnered the highest votes, as the duly nominated NRM flag bearer for 2026,” Unegiu proclaimed.

Oyullu expressed gratitude to the electorate for their trust and urged them to support him overwhelmingly in the 2026 general election.

Supporters praised Oyullu’s infrastructure achievements, particularly in roads and footbridges, expressing confidence in his ability to deliver further if re-elected.

While many incumbent councilors secured their nominations, defeated candidates notably failed to collect their declaration forms.

The primaries saw dismal voter turnout across Zombo’s 15 sub-counties and town councils.

Some of the Incumbent councillors jubilate upon securing  win.

Herbert Limthum from Central Ward, Paidha Town Council, attributed the low participation to dissatisfaction with the recent NRM parliamentary primaries, which he claimed disregarded voters’ preferences. 

Jacob Angala from Molujei Cell, Zombo Town Council, echoed this sentiment, citing disappointment with the parliamentary primary outcomes.

Registrar Unegiu cautioned nominated candidates against complacency, warning, “Do not relax, or you will face disappointment in the general election.”Zombo’s Resident District Commissioner, Festus Ayikobua, commended all candidates and urged voters to remain united, discouraging divisive rhetoric. 

He also encouraged NRM candidates to counter opposition narratives by highlighting the party’s achievements.

The low voter turnout remains a concern in a district with over 100,000 registered NRM members, casting a shadow over the primary’s success.
