Pope Leo XIV addressed the International Catholic Legislators Network at the Vatican, emphasizing the importance of authentic human flourishing that goes beyond material wealth and consumer comfort.

He highlighted the need for lawmakers to act as "bridge-builders" between the City of God and the City of Man, infusing earthly society with the values of God's Kingdom.

The Pope stressed that the future of human flourishing depends on the "love" we choose to organize society around – either selfish love or love of God and neighbor.

He cautioned against reducing human flourishing to material wealth or individual autonomy, emphasizing the importance of integral human development and natural law as a universal principle guiding legislation and action.

Pope Leo XIV also emphasized the responsibility of lawmakers to promote and protect the good of the community, particularly by defending the vulnerable and marginalized.

He called for a "politics of hope" and an "economics of hope," anchored in the conviction that we can reflect Christ's light in the earthly city. By doing so, lawmakers can offer an effective service to harmony and peace by promoting the equitable distribution of resources.

On his part the Member of Parliament representing people of Ora county in Zombo district Biyika Lawrence Songa pledged to continue to serve his constituency and community in unity for community development irrespective of religion, tribes, ethnicity and political ideologies. 

He emphasized that the vulnerable people in communities must get the hope they long for and called for unity of purpose in the care of the earth and all inhabitants.
