Authorities in Adjumani District have launched a formal investigation following the discovery of a suspected hand grenade in Tiolo Cell, Nyivura Ward, Pakele Town Council, Adjumani District.

According to SP Collins Asea, North West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson, the unexploded grande was identified by Ms. Chandia Florence, a local resident, in her simsim garden on September 4, 2025.

SP Asea reported, “On 04/09/2025 at approximately 0900 hours, Ms. Chandia Florence, a resident of Tiolo Cell, reported to Pakele Police Station the discovery of a suspected hand grenade in her maize and simsim garden.” 

He further noted that the Officer in Charge (OC) at Pakele Police Station promptly deployed a response team to the scene, which confirmed the presence of an aged UXO in an open area of the garden.

Preliminary assessments indicate the grenade’s safety pin was secured with a rubber rope, suggesting it may have been deliberately placed by an unknown individual.

The incident is under investigation by Adjumani Central Police Station (CPS) under reference Pakele SDREF: 07/04/09/2025, dated 04/09/2025.

To mitigate risks to public safety, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) specialists from Police Headquarters are en route to Adjumani to conduct a controlled removal and neutralization of the device.

Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant, avoid the area, and report any suspicious objects to law enforcement immediately. The police are actively investigating and will provide updates as the situation develops.
