A 24-year-old employee of Balaam Music Events, Musasizi Yusufu, tragically drowned in the River Nile on October 18, 2025, at Sinyanya Landing Site in Adjumani District.

According to SP Collins Asea, North West Nile regional police spokesperson, Musasizi and his colleagues had traveled from Obongi District to Adjumani after a presidential campaign event. After safely crossing the river by ferry, the group stopped to rest at the landing site while waiting for others.

Asea added that, Musasizi approached the riverbank to bathe, removed his clothes and sandals, and entered the water. Believing it was shallow, he swam into deeper waters, where he was overcome by the strong current and drowned.

Rescue teams, including divers from Obongi District, recovered Musasizi’s body about 200 meters downstream.

The body was taken to Adjumani General Hospital for a postmortem examination. 

Police have opened a death investigation under reference ADJ. DEF 53/2025, with scene of crime officers and a homicide team from Adjumani Central Police Station investigating the incident.

SP Collins Asea, the North West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson confirmed the incident.

Drowning remains a significant concern in Uganda. In 2024, the Uganda Police Force reported 119 drowning cases, down from 138 in 2023, accounting for 62% of all water-related incidents. However, a 2024 Makerere University School of Public Health report estimates over 3,000 drowning deaths annually, averaging nine deaths per day.
