Zombo District community is grappling with profound sorrow following the sudden passing of Ukirwoth Sillar Ungala, a distinguished educator, administrator, and community advocate who founded Jubilant Canaan Junior School.

Ungala, who served as the Director of Administration at Jubilant Canaan Junior School in Zombo District, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025, after a brief illness at Nyapea Hospital, as confirmed by family members.

Ungala’s untimely departure leaves an irreplaceable void in the education sector and the broader community.

Renowned for his unwavering commitment to advancing educational excellence, he was a transformative figure dedicated to fostering the intellectual and personal growth of students in Zombo District.

His visionary leadership profoundly influenced countless learners, and his legacy will continue to shape future generations.

Born on July 14, 1975, in Cananyira Village, Zeu Sub-county, Zombo District, Ungala was a proud product of the local education system, having attended Papoga Primary School and Zeu Secondary School.

He later emerged as a prominent leader in the district’s education landscape.

Ungala’s illustrious career was marked by significant contributions to educational institutions.

He served as Director of Studies at Anika Classic School in Kampala and as Headteacher of Public Trust High School in Ntungamo.

From 1999 to 2003, he was Headteacher of Zeu Senior Secondary School, where he drove substantial institutional growth and academic development.

Additionally, as the founder and Director of Administration at Bethel Junior School-Zeu, he established a benchmark for educational excellence in the district.

At the time of his passing, Ungala was actively forging strategic partnerships between Jubilant Canaan Junior School and organizations such as FOYA-Uganda and Emerson Elementary School in Ohio, USA. These collaborations had already begun to enhance the school’s resources and opportunities, reflecting his innovative approach to educational leadership.

Ungala Academic's educational journey began in 1981 when he enrolled in Primary 1. He completed his primary education in 1987, spanning Primary 1 to Primary 7. From 1988 to 1992, he attended Zeu Secondary School, where he obtained his O-Level certificate. He then pursued A-Level studies at St. Aloysius College Nyapea from 1993 to 1995. Continuing his education, he enrolled at National Teachers College Muni from 1995 to 1997, earning a Diploma in Secondary Education. Later, from 2002 to 2004, he attended Kyambogo University, where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Throughout his career, he taught at various schools, including Aluka Secondary School and Zeu Secondary School, among others.

As Zombo District bids farewell to Ungala, his legacy of dedication to education, community empowerment, and transformative leadership endures. Social media platforms are filled with tributes, with many expressing hopes that “his soul may rest in eternal peace.”

Ungala’s funeral service is scheduled for Monday, October 27, 2025, at the residence of Chombe Tefilo in Thurumbi Village, Zeu Sub-county, commencing at 10:00 AM.
