Prominent Paidha Businessman Killed in Fatal Road Traffic Crash

Tributes and messages of condolence continue to pour in on social media following the death of renowned Paidha Town Council businessman Patrick Nera in a fatal road traffic crash on a dangerous bend late at night.

The crash occurred in Agore East Village, Oyeyu Parish, Nyapea Sub-County, at Abenju Ringi corner near Number Tanu Trading Centre, around 11:00 PM on December 30, 2025, according to local leaders.

Emmanuel Ovon, LCII Chairperson of Oyeyu Parish, confirmed the incident in an interview, noting it happened just 50 metres from his home at approximately 11:00 PM.

He explained that after eyewitnesses raised the alarm and rushed to his residence, he instructed that the victim be immediately transported to Nyapea Hospital for emergency treatment, where he was later pronounced dead shortly.

"He was travelling towards Paidha from Akwanji Trading Centre when he collided with a pedestrian crossing the road. The impact caused him to lose control, resulting in a severe crash from which he sustained fatal injuries," Ovon said, while extending condolences to the deceased's family and friends.

Ovon added, "The identity of the pedestrian involved remains unknown, but from observations, the individual appeared to be mentally unstable."

Linus Opakrwoth, who assisted a friend in rushing the victim to hospital, stated: "We transported Patrick while he was still alive, but he was losing Blood heavily from his injuries."

Opakrwoth further explained: "After leaving Patrick at the facility, we returned to the scene to evacuate the unconscious pedestrian, whom we also admitted to hospital. Unfortunately, upon our return, Patrick had been pronounced dead."

The area Councillor for Oyeyu Parish, Joe Ubedgiu, described the crash as "sad and tragic," noting that the deceased was a well-known businessman not only in Paidha but across the sub-region.

The victim is recognised for his strong support of Alur talents in music, sports, and entertainment.

Prominent Alur music artist Lucky Dee expressed grief over the news on his Facebook page, writing: "Am heart broken Nera," alongside a photo from a past shared moment with the deceased.

No official statement has yet been issued by police or the family.

According to the Uganda Police Annual Crime Report 2024, an average of 14 road traffic deaths were recorded daily that year, with the highest fatalities occurring between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM , followed by the 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM period.
