3,979 Police Probationers cautioned against HIV/AIDS, STDs During Pass-Out Ceremony

The 3,979 new probationer police constables in West Nile were cautioned against the dangers of HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) as they officially passed out from Ikafe Police Training School.
The graduates form part of the national 25th intake of 9,952 police recruits.
The pass-out ceremony, held under the theme "Collaborative Training Towards People-Centred Service for Socio-Economic Transformation," was presided over by AIGP Joseph Obwona, Director of Interpol and International Relations.
The 11-month rigorous training programme, which began on August 1, 2025, combined theoretical and practical modules to prepare the recruits for professional policing.
SSP James Okello Okabo, Commandant of Ikafe Police Training School, confirmed that all trainees successfully passed their assessments, showcasing high levels of discipline, physical strength, and readiness to serve the nation.
Of the 3,979 officers, 1,238 are women, reflecting the Uganda Police Force’s commitment to gender empowerment.
The training was supported by 191 staff members, including 145 field trainers and specialists, among them experts in medical fields.
In his address to the new officers, SSP Okello Okabo placed strong emphasis on personal discipline and health protection.
He urged the graduates to avoid risky behaviours that could expose them to HIV/AIDS and other STDs, stressing that maintaining good health is vital for their careers, job security, and future promotions. He also encouraged them to pursue continuous skills development.
AIGP Joseph Obwona congratulated the recruits on completing the demanding training and advised them to uphold discipline, integrity, and professionalism while steering clear of corruption. He further called on them to remain vigilant and ethical in their interactions with senior officers and the public.
Police leadership expressed confidence that the new officers will contribute meaningfully to community safety and improved service delivery across the country.
