Territorial police in Madi-Okollo District are probing a case of attempted murder following a violent family altercation that escalated over political differences ahead of the upcoming general elections.

According to police , the incident occurred on January 4, 2026, at approximately 6:30 p.m. in Otraka Lali cell, Enyio ward, Inde town council.

The victim, 30-year-old Asia Patrick, a Lugbara peasant farmer residing in the area, was allegedly shot in the groin area with a bow and arrow by his brother, the suspect Bulia Sunday, also a Lugbara adult from the same village.

According to authorities, the assault stemmed from a heated argument between the brothers regarding candidates for the Lower Madi constituency Member of Parliament seat and village mobilization activities.

West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson SSP Josephine Angucia confirmed the details: "The dispute initially involved the suspect quarrelling with his father. Bulia Sunday then retrieved a bow and arrow from his house, intending to shoot the father. When the victim intervened to separate them, the suspect instead discharged the arrow, striking his brother near the male sexual organ before fleeing the scene."

The case was reported to Rhino Camp Police Station on January 5, 2026, and registered under Madi-Okollo CRB 006/2026 as attempted murder by shooting.

The victim was issued a Police Form 3 for medical examination, and surgeons at Rhino Camp Health Centre IV successfully removed the arrow on January 6, 2026.

No arrests have been made as of yet, but police are actively pursuing the fugitive suspect.

Witness statements are being recorded as the investigation continues.

In a statement urging calm amid the election season, SSP Angucia added: "We call on the public to practice political tolerance within families and communities to ensure peaceful campaigns leading to the general elections on January 15, 2026."

SSP Josephine Angucia, West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson confirmed the incident.
