Six LC III Chairpersons have retained their seats unopposed in Zombo district as polls are going on across the country.

The sub counties who have seen incumbents retaining their seats are; Alangi sub-county, Atyak sub-county, Athuma sub-county, Nyapea sub-county, Warr sub county, Padea town council.

In Alangi sub-county for the third time, Meova Jackson National Resistance Movement NRM Flagbearer retained his seat and all councilors from the five parishes went unopposed.

In Nyapea sub-county for the second time Constantine Omwon NRM retained his position, Athuma sub-county second time Jinaro Onegiu NRM equally is unopposed, Warr sub-county James Cekecan Apoi NRM retained his seat for second time.

Meanwhile, Melki Orwothuwun NRM retained his office for Padea town council.

Significant battle for the office for Paidha town council is between youth chairperson Zombo district, Amos Jacan NRM ticket, Denis Angala independent ticket, Sam Rwothomio National Unity Plarform [NUP] and Xyhm Okirwoth independent ticket.

In Zombo town council the battle is between Eng. Frank P Opio independent tick and Grace Onegi NRM. 

In Abanga sub-county the battle is between independent candidate Cosmas Wanok and Tetizo Unytuthi NRM and incumbent Richard Awekonimungu on an independent ticket.

There are fifteen lower local government units with over 140,000 voters spread across the district.

A Number of voters in Zombo district expressed optimism electing these leaders will transform their areas.

Dominica Akumu 34, resident of Bedkuwengi Cell in Paidha town council was pleased with youth turning up for election at various polling stations.

She rallied political leaders to lobby for productive ventures for young people.

“I urged leaders to prioritize connecting our village to electricity and advocating for productive ventures for youth”. Akumu

Apparently, the returning officer Zombo district, Emmanuel Ogwang, confirmed the voting going on smoothly across the district with Biometric Voters Verifications Kits [BVVK] functioning well in all polling stations.

Speaking about the turn-up Ogwang observed that although in the morning low voters showed up in polling stations coming to midday, turn-up kept improving significantly.

“we are using BVVk in all electoral areas and they are effectively being used, in the morning the turn up was low but now people have good turn-up.” Ogwang.
