Why do some of our sisters from DR Congo bleach their skin when they are already beautiful as the God of our ancestors created them?

Across Africa, our melanin is a symbol of strength, heritage, and identity. Our sisters from DR Congo, like all African women, are naturally beautiful just as they were created. Yet many feel pressure from society, media, and colonial beauty standards that suggest lighter skin is more attractive or successful.

This raises an important conversation for all Africans.

Why should we change the skin that carries the history of our ancestors?

Melanin is not a problem to fix — it is a crown of beauty and resilience. The richness of African skin reflects the diversity and strength of our continent.

Zoomer Africa believes it is time for a deeper discussion about self-love, identity, and the dignity of African beauty.
