The Aringa Kingdom in Uganda’s West Nile Sub-region is in deep mourning following the sudden passing of its revered chief historian, Jabiri Juruga, at the age of 90.

Kingdom elders and residents have described the demise as a profound blow not only to the Aringa people but to the entire West Nile cultural landscape.

Jabiri Juruga was widely celebrated for his masterful craftsmanship in preserving and accurately narrating the history, oral traditions, and origins of the Aringa Kingdom as well as those of other West Nile tribes.

The death was officially announced on Monday afternoon by Aringa Kingdom Prime Minister Lemeriga Fadhil, who paid glowing tribute to the late historian.“His footsteps will live forever,” said the Prime Minister. “His voice has been recorded and will be properly documented for future generations.”

According to the Kingdom, official burial arrangements and dates will be communicated in due course.

Jabiri Juruga’s passing comes at a critical time when many cultural institutions across the West Nile Sub-region continue to grapple with the challenge of preserving clear, accurate, and authentic histories of their origins amid rapid social change and limited documentation.

According to Aringa Kingdom, The late historian leaves behind a rich legacy of oral archives that many hope will continue to serve as a vital reference point for the cultural identity and heritage of the Aringa and broader West Nile communities.
