Alur Kingdom Gains Fresh Momentum as Omua Jupa Kago Chiefdom Prepares for Revival under New Leadership

The Royal Council of Kaal Omua Jupa Kago has announced its readiness to enstool Crown Prince Awacango Moses as Rwoth Kago IV, officially reintegrating the long-dormant Omua Chiefdom into the Ker Alur Council of Chiefs.

The development marks a significant boost to cultural unity and heritage preservation in the Alur Kingdom, which has millions of subjects and operates through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms under the leadership of His Majesty Ubimu Phillip Olarker Rauni III.

A high-powered royal delegation, led by Kaal Omua Chairman Mzee Kidikpa Alisanzuru Alworunga and Chiefdom Jadipu Prince Zunguru Gilbert, delivered the landmark message to Ubimu Phillip Olarker Rauni III through Jadipu (Prime Minister) Prince Lawrence Opar Angala last week.

The meeting, attended by prominent Ker Alur chiefs including Rwoth Evaristo Kerunega Rini IV of Avari, Rwoth Ocan Akonja Jalafoyo of Culamuk, Rwoth Joseph Wanok Jalngidhu of Aringu, Prince Orom Jalumvor of Alengo-Lari, and Princes Okello Harry Jalmoro and Okoku Olarker Jalusiga of Kaal Atyak, highlighted a renewed spirit of cohesion within the kingdom.

Jadipu Opar Angala warmly commended the Jupa Kago royal family for responding to the Ubimu’s visionary call to revive and restructure dormant chiefdoms. 

He emphasised that strong, legitimate leadership across all chiefdoms is vital for the Alur Kingdom’s future.

“This revival will enable us to better preserve and protect our rich Alur cultural heritage while effectively mobilising communities for socio-economic transformation in line with government policy,” said Jadipu Opar Angala.

He laid to rest any potential concerns over legitimacy, confirming that Crown Prince Moses Awacango’s installation as Rwoth Kago IV follows a clear line.

The two previous holders, the late Duka Alphoso and the late Omul Jenesio, served only in acting capacities after the passing of Rwoth Anderia Kago, grandfather of the crown prince.

According to the Kingdom, the reintegration of the Omua Chiefdom exemplifies the broader positive impact of streamlining traditional institutions under credible leadership.

Benefits of the Revival

The Kingdom highlighted that the move will enhance cultural preservation, as formal structures ensure Alur customs, oral history, and royal lineages are properly documented and passed to future generations. It will also foster stronger community unity through cohesion among clans, reducing fragmentation and strengthening collective identity.

Jadipu Opar Angala added that such streamlining improves socio-economic mobilisation, as “well-led chiefdoms can more effectively rally communities for development projects, education, health initiatives, and livelihood programmes.”

He further noted that streamlined traditional leadership creates reliable channels for partnership between cultural institutions and local authorities, while clear succession and archived lineages minimise disputes, ensuring peaceful transitions and sustained progress.

Historical and Structural Significance

Rwoth Kago I, founder of the Omua Jupa Kago Chiefdom, was a brother to Ubimu Amula Jobi I and the youngest son of Rwoth Ubimu Alworunga. 

The chiefdom holds equal standing with other Jupa Alworunga chiefdoms and serves as the traditional head for clans including Vura, Jupa Goli, Pawo, Pagei, Awora, Jupa Angia, and Jal Usiga royal families.These clans, located mainly in Kango Sub-County and parts of Warr Town Council in Zombo District, will now benefit from direct representation to the Ubimu in Kaal Atyak Winam.

The delegation assured the gathering that the Ubimu will be informed of the enstoolment date before the end of this year, once all traditional preparations are completed in consultation with Kaal Atyak Winam.

This comes months after the Alur Kingdom resolved a longstanding succession dispute in Abira Chiefdom, clearing the way for the installation of the rightful hereditary chief under Alur customary law.

During a mediation meeting held on June 20, 2026, in Abira East Ward, Zombo Town Council, the Kingdom's Prime Minister (Jadipu), Prince Lawrence Opar Angala, led senior chiefs and the Atyak Royal Council in reviewing the chiefdom's genealogy and oral history.

The council unanimously declared Prince Opio Louis Jayelu, son of the late Chief Marcello Jayelu, as the legitimate heir to the throne.

Once the process is complete, Kaal Omua Jupa Kago and Abira chiefdoms will officially join the Alur Kingdom as fully recognized entities, increasing the number of chiefdoms under the Kingdom from 64 to 66.

According to Jadipu Opar this is a significant step in the ongoing renaissance of the Alur Kingdom under the leadership of Ubimu Phillip Rauni Olarker III.
