The entertainment industry, particularly the fast-rising Zombo comedy scene, is in mourning following the sudden death of prominent comedian Safi, a beloved figure known for his sharp wit and energetic performances.

Safi, who was also a member of the Paidha Transporters Association (Blockers) at China Stage, passed away today, Monday, April 20, 2026, at Nebbi General Hospital.

The heartbreaking news was confirmed by his close friend and fellow comedian Brian Olokcwinyu, popularly known by his stage name Ajiri.

Ajiri took to social media to share a short 20-second clip from their recently released rib-cracking comedy skit titled “Stupid Police" which also featured star comedian Baby Boy. He captioned the clip simply: “RIP Bro.

Safi also featured in Ajoga Mi Naro, Jaranyodu Maming amongst others.

In an emotional statement, Ajiri called on the entire entertainment industry to rally together and support the family during this difficult time.

“We rally our fellow members of the entertainment industry to come together to offer the little we have to support our brother,” he said.

Fellow comedian Baby Boy also paid glowing tribute, describing Safi as a humble and ambitious talent.

“He had a lot of plans, he was a very humble man who really had a lot of dreams and goals. We call upon all the entertainment fraternity to join hands in this trying time,” Baby Boy said.

The loss has sent shockwaves across the local arts community.

Sam Kumakech, Director of Information and Sports in the Alur Kingdom, described Safi’s passing as “a big loss,” noting that the comedian was a strong promoter of Kura Matira (good morals) and Alur cultural practices through his work.

West Nile Music Association Chairperson, James Jawotho, has said he is yet to confirm the sad news.

Safi and other comedians in Zombo District have completely transformed the entertainment industry, which previously relied heavily on music alone.

Their arrival blended comedy into the mix and gave the scene fresh energy.

The cause of Safi’s death remains unclear as of press time.

Efforts to reach family members for comments on burial arrangements and the transportation of his body from Nebbi to Paidha were unsuccessful.

Safi’s untimely exit is being widely viewed as a major blow to the burgeoning Zombo comedy movement, which has injected new life into local entertainment landscape.

May his soul rest in eternal peace. RIP Safi.
