For all of Arsenal’s progress, promise and excitement, Manchester City once again showed the difference between a team chasing glory and a team built to own it. In the end, the Premier League title race was not decided by emotion, social media noise or moments of hype. It was decided by mentality, control, experience and ruthless consistency — and that is where Manchester City proved Arsenal were still not ready.

City’s dominance in recent years is not an accident. By winning the 2023/24 Premier League title, Pep Guardiola’s side became the first men’s team in English top-flight history to win four consecutive league crowns. They finished ahead of Arsenal once again, underlining the brutal standard required to become champions. 

Arsenal deserve credit for pushing City deeper than many expected. Mikel Arteta has transformed the club into serious contenders, and there is no doubt the Gunners have improved in quality, organisation and ambition. But title races are not won simply by improving. They are won by surviving pressure when every single match becomes a final. That is where Manchester City remain in a class of their own.

The gap between the two sides was not only tactical. It was psychological. When pressure rises in the closing months, City become calmer, sharper and more clinical. Arsenal, by contrast, have too often looked like a team still learning how to carry the weight of expectation. That learning curve is painful in a league where one poor result, one nervous performance or one missed opportunity can destroy months of hard work.

Manchester City understand title-winning football better than anyone in England today. They know when to slow a game down, when to raise the tempo, when to punish mistakes and when to grind out results without drama. That winning culture has been built over years, and it showed again when the title race entered its most decisive stage. City’s long unbeaten run and ability to stay in control under pressure reflected a squad that knows exactly what champions must do.

Arsenal, on the other hand, still looked like a side with talent but without the full champion’s instinct. There were moments across the campaign when they played excellent football, but excellence alone is not enough against a machine like Manchester City. To dethrone City, a rival must be almost flawless. Arsenal were good, sometimes very good, but not yet relentless enough.

This is the harsh truth of modern Premier League football: potential does not lift trophies. Character does. Experience does. Squad depth does. Composure does. Manchester City had all of it. Arsenal had parts of it.

That is why the title did not end in north London. City had the emotional discipline, the mature decision-making and the proven habit of winning when it mattered most. Arsenal had energy, hunger and belief, but belief without complete control is not enough at the very top.

None of this means Arsenal have failed completely. Far from it. They are closer than they were a few years ago, and they remain one of the strongest teams in England. But if this title race proved anything, it is that being close to Manchester City is not the same as being ready to finish above them.

Manchester City did not just win another title. They sent a message. In the Premier League, the crown does not go to the team that dreams the loudest. It goes to the side that handles pressure with the most authority. Once again, City showed they are still that side — and Arsenal, despite all their progress, were still not ready.
