The Alur Kingdom has secured 50 half-bursary slots from Nebbi School of Health Sciences for the July 2026 intake.

The kingdom’s Prime Minister (Jadipu), Prince Lawrence Opar Angala, confirmed the development, stating that the bursaries are offered under the institution’s School Support Scheme Policy.

The slots target eligible candidates from the Alur Kingdom who meet the admissions criteria set by the Ministry of Education and Sports.

According to the offer, applicants must obtain a formal recommendation from the Alur Kingdom and satisfy the required academic and institutional entry requirements to qualify for the sponsorship.

The half-bursaries cover both certificate and diploma programmes aimed at strengthening the health workforce.

• Certificate in Midwifery  
• Certificate in Medical Laboratory  
• Certificate in Medical Records  
• Certificate in Public Health  
• Certificate in Pharmacy

Diploma programmes:

• Diploma in Clinical Medicine  
• Diploma in Pharmacy  
• Diploma in Medical Laboratory  
• Diploma in Public Health

Prince Lawrence Opar Angala commended Nebbi School of Health Sciences for the initiative, describing it as “part of broader efforts to enhance access to education and build a skilled workforce to improve community health outcomes across the kingdom.”

The Deputy Principal of Nebbi School of Health Sciences, Mr. Okoboah Patrick, confirmed the allocation of the 50 bursary slots to the Alur Kingdom. 

He explained: “Charity begins at home and you know Alur Kingdom covers all the three districts of Zombo, Nebbi and Pakwach. There is no way we can leave out the Kingdom after giving bursaries to churches, so we need students to benefit through the Kingdom.”

Mr. Okoboah added that the school’s doors are open for visits, guidance, and joint efforts that will help better serve the people of the region.

This development is viewed as a positive step towards empowering the Alur Kingdom’s youth, particularly those in rural settings, by investing in professional health education that directly addresses local human resource needs in the health sector.

Jadipu Opar urged subjects of the kingdom to seize the existing opportunities, noting that more bursaries are still streaming into the Kingdom, all aimed at improving the social wellbeing and education standards of the subjects at all fronts.

The coming in of more institutions of such stature within the greater Nebbi sub-region is a major blessing to the education sector, as it brings tertiary education nearer to the subjects, many of whom previously stopped at lower levels due to the high costs of studying in distant areas such as Arua, Gulu, Masindi, and Kampala.

Nebbi School of Health Sciences, located at the former Udende Theological Centre along the Nebbi-Zombo road in Jupangira Sub-county, Nebbi District, was established to improve access to quality health education and develop a skilled health workforce to serve local communities and the nation at large.

Beyond academic programmes, the school provides scholarships for outstanding students and a number of bursaries targeted at students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The extension of these bursaries to the Alur Kingdom is expected to open doors for many bright but needy students who would otherwise struggle to afford professional health training.

Graduates from the programmes are expected to return and serve in local health facilities, helping address the chronic shortage of qualified health workers in rural Alur areas.

This is anticipated to improve healthcare delivery, reduce maternal and child mortality, strengthen disease prevention, and contribute to better health outcomes for families in remote villages.

The school operates under the motto “Every Life Counts” and aims to make professional health training accessible to students from economically disadvantaged households.

In its formal introduction to the Alur Kingdom, the institution expressed its desire for partnership, blessings, and collaboration with the Kingdom’s leadership.

The Alur Kingdom has stated that its doors remain open to genuine institutions with reputable, traceable, and government-recognised backgrounds to sponsor and extend education support to its subjects.

His Majesty Ubimu Phillip Rauni Ularker III, the Alur King, continues to emphasize the value of education in all available forums, consistently promoting education among his subjects.

Last year, the Alur Kingdom received 436 bursary offers for its young people to undertake various vocational courses at Erussi Institute of Science and Technology (EISS) and Fountain Head Institute of Management and Technology.

Additionally, His Majesty Isabarongo Mwatansozi Mwogezi Butamanya, the King of Buruuli Kingdom and Chairman of the Uganda Kings and Cultural Leaders Forum, successfully lobbied for 1,000 full-tuition scholarships in partnership with JAIN University in India.

The scholarships aim to enhance access to quality higher education for Ugandan students, with particular emphasis on youth from cultural institutions and underserved regions.
