Alur Kingdom Youth Leadership Gains National Recognition

The Youth leadership of the Alur Kingdom has continued to gain international and national recognition following the remarkable achievements of Mr Sam Kumakech , Director for Youth, Information and Sports at Alur Kingdom.
Kumakech Sam was elected as an Executive Member and officially incorporated into the leadership structure of the Luo International Community Youth (LIC) Union.
Sam Kumakech, the Alur Kingdom Director of Sports and Information, confirmed the development.
“I will use this opportunity to advocate for youth socio-economic empowerment and, above all, encourage young people—starting with the Alur Kingdom—to embrace and support their cultural heritage by becoming productive and responsible citizens. The future belongs to the youth, and preparing for that future begins with valuing and appreciating the culture and history that shape our identity,” Kumakech said.
The international platform brings together Luo youth ministers, directors, and leaders from Luo-speaking communities and countries including Uganda, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Tanzania, UK, among others.
The union champions international cultural development programmes aimed at promoting unity, cooperation, and cultural identity among Luo youth across the world. It also serves as a key platform for strengthening cultural exchange, leadership development, and youth empowerment initiatives among Luo communities globally.
In another major milestone, on 14th May 2026, Kumakech Sam was elected and included among the Executive Committee Members of the Uganda National Council for Youth in Culture.
The incorporation event took place at the ministry of Gender, Labour and social development in Kampala, on 15th May 2026.
The national structure comprises 64 top executive members and sub-committees representing recognized and gazetted cultural institutions across Uganda.
The council provides an important national platform for youth leaders to advocate for the inclusion of their cultural values and priorities within Uganda’s national youth and cultural development planning.
It also coordinates cultural events under the government cultural protocol, promotes unique cultural heritage, and creates opportunities for purposeful socio-economic development of young people through cultural funding programmes and strategic partnerships.
The dual appointments mark a significant achievement not only for Kumakech Sam personally, but also for the youth leadership of the Alur Kingdom, as it strengthens the kingdom’s representation in both regional, national, and international cultural leadership structures.
