Nebbi District, Uganda – A hardworking truck driver, Aduba Musisi Emmanuel, died on Sunday morning after a road accident on the notorious Ayila Bridge in Parombo Sub-county.

Musisi, who was en route to Parombo for his routine duties at around 8:00 am, lost his life when his vehicle was involved in an incident on the narrow and unprotected bridge. According to tributes, the experienced driver attempted to reverse the truck along the descent to save his life, the vehicle, and its merchandise, but the bridge’s hazardous conditions proved fatal.

In a heartfelt condolence message, Nebbi District LC5 Chairman Othuba George described the incident as a painful reminder of the district’s long-standing infrastructure challenges.

“Oh dear Musisi, the crude arm of death today snatched you away from us. The death spot once again was the same overly talked about narrow and unprotected Ayila bridge,” Othuba wrote. “Your uncommon valour and experience for once couldn’t save you. What a sad and dark Sunday morning!”

The Chairman noted that he had only been in office for two days when the tragedy occurred. He acknowledged government shortcomings and pledged immediate action.

“You tried your level best, but we failed you on the part of government,” he said. “I commit to join hands with our elected leaders at various levels, well-wishers and people of good will to ensure we rehabilitate all the dangerous bridges of Nebbi District that to date pose death traps to our people.

Bridges Targeted for Rehabilitation:

  1. Ayila bridges (Upper and Lower) – Parombo Sub-county
  2. Paicing bridge – Nyaravur-Angal Town Council
  3. Achodho bridge – Parombo Town Council
  4. Namthin bridge – Nebbi Sub-county
  5. Kubira bridge – Kucwiny Sub-county

Othuba concluded with condolences to the bereaved family, relatives, in-laws, and friends, praying that no more lives are lost in similar circumstances.
