Nebbi Diocese Church of Uganda has lost a senior clergyman, Rev Sam Akenda, who passed away at Mulago National Referral Hospital on Monday, June 22, 2026.

Rev Sam Akenda, aged 74, was serving as Parish Priest of Kivuje Parish in Jonam Archdeaconry within Nebbi Diocese at the time of his death.

His daughter, Sunday Kayom, confirmed the passing, stating: “This is so painful ...why God Rest peacefully Dad.”

The news of the senior clergyman’s death has drawn tributes from members of the public, particularly on social media, with many encouraging the family to remain strong during this difficult time.

Last week, Rev Marlon Rupiny of Paidha Town Parish, Church of Uganda, had asked believers at St Paul Church of Uganda Mvungu in Paidha to “pray for Rev Sam Akenda who is not feeling well.”

Family members said the date for the burial will be communicated later.

Rev Sam Akenda served diligently in several parishes, including Abanga Parish, Parombu Town Parish, Mvuranyi Parish, Nyarwodho Parish, and Angol Parish under Ukuru Archdeaconry.

 He was serving at Kivuje Parish in Jonam Archdeaconry until his passing.
