‎Zombo District Rallies Stakeholders To Embrace Tourism To Boost Revenue And Employment

‎Zombo district Local Government engaged hotel operators, religious and cultural leaders, political leaders, development partners, games and sports managers and technical staff to embark on strategies to tap from lucrative tourism potential opportunities.

‎They made the revelation during a stakeholders engagement meeting held on Friday July 17th 2026 at the community development center hall.

‎While facilitating the session, Mr Alex Rwothomio, conservationist and tourism activist has urged the stakeholders to position themselves, promote and tap from tourism.

‎The Zombo district tourism officer,  Jovian Kayenyparwoth rallied the stakeholders to be the champion for community mobilization and ambassoders of cultural, religious and community tourism tasking them to identify unique features in the community for tourism attraction.

‎"Zombo district have good birds, cultural sites, and Nyagak  hydro-electricity dam III among others attraction." Kayeny Parwoth observed 

‎The Zombo District Community Development Officer, Mr Samuel Ocaki, revealed that they have identified Blacksmithing activity site in Alube parish, Kango Sub-county among others as potential sites, including cultural performances and regalia which needs to be exploited.

‎At the Blacksmith site in Alube,  products such as hoe, slashers, spears, knives, axes  among are made out of stones believed to understood by ancient Kebhu people who who keeps transferring the knowledge to new generation.

‎According to Mr Ocaki "Blacksmith is a huge tourism source in Zombo if the venture is popularized to tourists".

‎He appealed to the traditional leaders to support the tourism officers efforts toward documenting and profiling potential sites.

‎Mr Alex Okecha, the Prime Minister of Kebhu Rigahngi who represented the cultural institutions commended the Ministry of Tourism Wildlife and Antiquities for supporting recruitment of tourism officers in the district.

‎Mr Okecha encouraged the district to exploit the cultural diversity of the tribes in the district (Alur, Kebhu, Lendu, Lugbara and Madi respectively).

‎He affirmed that Kebhu are the only tribe who can identify the type of stone use in Blacksmith smelting technology and Ironmongering of usable tools.

‎The LC V vice Chairperson, Zombo district, Hassan Ringtho, assured the cultural leaders and hotel owners high cooperation for ensuring tourism is a success in the district.

Assistant Resident District Commissioner, Bruno Manano, recounted the government commitment towards supporting tourism industry by harnessing budget for 5.8 billion for financial year 2026/2027.
‎Tourism contributed 5.9% GDP in financial year 2025/2026.
