Seven Arrested Over Robbery of Indian Businessman in Arua City

Police in Arua City have arrested seven suspects in connection with the robbery of 69 million Uganda shillings from an Indian national.
The suspects, currently detained at Arua City Central Police Station, were identified as Kapere Saidi, the LC1 Chairperson of Adriko Cell in Arua City Central Division; Muzaidi Amba Zaza; Muhammad Ali; Igga Rashid; Farouk Juma; Kamil Ramathan; and Agu Ashraf. Other suspects remain at large.
According to West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson SSP Josephine Angucia, the incident occurred on 15 August 2026 at around midday along Adumi Road in Arua Public Cell, Bazaar Ward, Arua City Central Division.
The victim, Rachit Patel, a businessman and manager of Muke Commodities who resides in Gurua Cell, Bazaar Ward, was riding a scooter motorcycle to Wall Forex Bureau carrying the cash. Near Stanbic Bank, he stopped to allow a large procession to pass.
After resuming his journey, he noticed two men on a numberless motorcycle following him. The motorcycle knocked his front tyre near IMC Bank, forcing him to stop. One of the men then grabbed the bag containing the 69 million shillings and fled. Patel attempted to give chase but lost sight of the suspects.
Police visited the scene and retrieved CCTV footage from cameras along Adumi Road, which aided the identification and subsequent arrest of the seven suspects.
The suspects are currently under interrogation.
Angucia said their case file will be compiled and forwarded to the Resident State Attorney for legal advice and sanctioning before they are charged with robbery in court.
Investigations continue under Arua City Central Division CRB 551/2026.
