Green and white dominated Warr Town Council in Zombo District on Friday as the new leadership of Zombo Muslim District was officially inaugurated in a ceremony presided over by His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje, the Mufti of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC).

Mufti Mubajje was accompanied by Dr. Sheikh Hafidha Haroon Muhammad Bukenya, the Second Deputy Mufti of the UMSC; West Nile Regional Assistant to the Mufti Alhajj Sheikh Mahdie Mahmood Raihan, sheikhs, imams and other leaders.

The event, attended by hundreds of Muslim faithful as well as leaders from other denominations, took place at the Jamia Mosque grounds, the designated headquarters of the newly established district in Warr Town Council on Friday October 2, 2026.

Before the ceremony, Mufti Mubajje toured several key sites, including schools and Muslim historical places.

Zombo Muslim District was carved out of the former Nebbi Muslim District as part of a broader restructuring by the UMSC in 2025.

Speaking at the inauguration, Mufti Mubajje praised the local Muslim community for embracing the new administrative unit.

“I commend the people of Zombo for warmly welcoming this new district. Let us stand united and live in peaceful coexistence with our brothers and sisters of other faiths. Unity is our strength,” Mufti Mubajje said.

The newly installed District Kadhi, Sheikh Abdulaziz Kassim Amin, described the occasion as a historic turning point.

“This is the beginning of a new chapter for the Muslim community in Zombo. We now have the structure to serve our people more effectively and bring services closer to them,” Sheikh Amin stated.

Area Members of Parliament from Zombo also attended and pledged their full support.

Topista Acamfua, the Woman MP of Zombo, said: “We stand firmly behind the new Muslim District leadership. We urge all residents to remain united and work together for the development of our communities.”

Ora County legislator Grace Freedom Kwiocwiny said: “This is a new Muslim District, this is a creation from a bigger Nebbi District. I welcome this because it bring services nearer to the people.”

Okoro County MP Gabriel Okumu said: “We welcome the new Muslim district, we shall pledge our maximum support to ensure it develops and help our community.”

Zombo Muslim District is one of 17 new administrative units approved by the UMSC Joint Session in October 2025. The creation of these districts aims to decentralize services and improve access for the faithful.

Zombo LCV Chairperson James Oruna Oyullu commended the leadership of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, headed by Sheikh Dr. Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje, for “prioritizing Zombo in the creation of new administrative units.”

Zombo RDC Festus Ayikobua called for unity, peaceful coexistence and love in serving the faithful.

Major General Dick Olum, who was the Chairperson of the Central Organizing Committee, urged the new Muslim district to focus on development.

According to the UMSC, the new units will bring administrative, educational and social services closer to Muslim communities.

This is expected to enhance local leadership, improve coordination of Islamic education, strengthen welfare programmes, and ensure faster response to the needs of the faithful at the grassroots level.

In 2025, the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council approved the creation of 17 new Muslim districts across Uganda. The decision was reached during a Joint Session on 16 October 2025, with the aim of improving Muslim administration, coordination and service delivery.

New Muslim districts approved include Obongi Muslim District , carved out of Moyo, Terego Muslim District carved out of Arua, Madi-Okollo Muslim District carved out of Arua, and Zombo Muslim District , carved out of Nebbi, among others.
