YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR FIRST AND LAST NAME WITHOUT LOSING YOUR DEGREES IN CAMEROON ! đŽ
Have you been told that if you change your LAST NAME or FIRST NAME, you will lose your GCE A-Level, Bachelor's Degree, or Master's Degree?
THAT IS COMPLETELY FALSE ! đźđš
Your academic qualifications belong to you FOR LIFE. It is your name in the civil registry that changes, not your academic history.
Here is how it actually works in Cameroon:
CASE 1: It is a mistake made by the town hall
Example: Your name was written as TEMKEMG instead of TEMKENG Maurice.
đ CORRECTION PROCEDURE at the Court in your place of birth. (Quick process: 1 to 3 months).
CASE 2: You genuinely want to change your LAST NAME and/or FIRST NAME
Example: You no longer want to bear your father's surname, or you feel uncomfortable with your first name.
đ NAME CHANGE PROCEDURE – Article 18 of Law No. 69/LF/63
Send a registered letter to the MINISTER OF JUSTICE, Keeper of the Seals.
Required documents: Birth Certificate, National Identity Card (NIC), Criminal Record Certificate, and a letter explaining your reasons.
Your intention is published in the Official Gazette and at your local town hall for 6 MONTHS (to allow anyone with valid grounds to file an objection).
No objection? Your application is forwarded to the PRIME MINISTER, who signs your DECREE.
HOW DO YOU KEEP YOUR DEGREES? HERE IS THE SECRET:
You do NOT need to obtain any of your degrees again. You simply create a legal link between your former identity and your new identity.
You will need a solid supporting file containing:
đ Your old birth certificate
đ Your new birth certificate
đ The court judgment or decree authorizing the name change
đ A CERTIFICATE OF CONSISTENCY / CERTIFICATE OF IDENTITY issued by your town hall, stating that:
"TEMKENG Maurice and TEMKENG Grâce are one and the same person."
You can present these documents wherever necessary: competitive examinations, job applications, degree equivalency procedures, and more.
No one can reject your qualifications simply because your name has changed.
Don't remain trapped by a LAST NAME or FIRST NAME you no longer wish to carry.
Share this information. It could change someone's life! đ
