Tashahhud – Correct Method and Common Mistakes
Tashahhud is the sitting position in Salah (prayer) where a Muslim recites At-Tahiyyat and sends blessings upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It is performed in the second and final sitting of prayer. This position includes specific hand placement and finger movement that were taught by the Prophet ﷺ.
1️⃣ Correct Finger Position During Tashahhud
In the correct method:
The right hand is placed on the right thigh.
The fingers are slightly folded.
The thumb and middle finger may touch to form a circle (according to some narrations).
The index finger is raised and pointed forward.
The finger is moved slightly or kept steady while making supplication (different authentic narrations mention slight movement).
This raised index finger symbolizes Tawheed (Oneness of Allah). It reflects the declaration of faith while reciting the testimony.
The left hand remains relaxed and placed flat on the left thigh.
2️⃣ Common Mistakes with the Finger
