The Woman Member of Parliament for Terego District and Vice Chairperson of the West Nile Parliamentary Caucus, Hon. Rose Obigah, has called for continued Cabinet representation for the West Nile sub-region following the death of veteran statesman Rt. Hon. Gen. (Rtd.) Moses Ali.

Speaking during a special parliamentary sitting held to pay tribute to the late Gen. Moses Ali, Hon. Obigah emphasized that West Nile has consistently demonstrated its political loyalty to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the National Resistance Movement (NRM), and therefore deserves to maintain a strong voice at the highest level of government.

In her tribute, she noted that with the passing of Gen. Moses Ali who served for decades as one of the region's most influential leaders and a senior Cabinet minister,West Nile has lost its principal link to the Cabinet.

Hon. Obigah appealed to President Museveni to ensure that the region continues to have a representative in Cabinet, saying the appointment would safeguard West Nile's interests and ensure that the concerns and aspirations of its people continue to be heard and addressed by the central government.

She further acknowledged the late Gen. Moses Ali's immense contribution to national unity, peace, and the socio-economic transformation of West Nile, describing him as a statesman whose leadership created a lasting bridge between the region and the national leadership.

The remarks were delivered as Members of Parliament from across the political divide paid glowing tributes to the late Gen. Moses Ali, celebrating his decades of public service, patriotism, and unwavering commitment to Uganda's development.

The special parliamentary tribute formed part of the national mourning activities in honour of the late statesman, whose passing has drawn condolences from leaders across Uganda.

A poignant moment marked Parliament's special sitting on Tuesday as President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni joined Members of Parliament and other national leaders in paying tribute to the late Rt. Hon. Gen. (Rtd.) Moses Ali, one of Uganda's longest-serving statesmen.

As the President greeted legislators before the tribute proceedings, he paused upon meeting Hon. Marshall Alenyo O.O., the Member of Parliament for Jonam County, and asked, "Are you the one called Marshall Alenyo?"

The question was widely interpreted as President Museveni recalling the late Ezrom William Alenyo O.O., the former Local Council V (LCV) Chairperson of the then Nebbi District, before the creation of Zombo and Pakwach districts. The late Ezrom William Alenyo O.O. was a prominent local government leader whose service extended across the wider Nebbi region, now comprising Nebbi, Zombo, and Pakwach districts.
Standing alongside Hon. Marshall Alenyo during the exchange was Hon. Akumu Catherine Mavenjina, the Member of Parliament representing Older Persons, who was also attending the parliamentary tribute.

Charity Lenia Joins NRM CEC as Museveni Reshuffles Party's Top Leadership
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, in his capacity as National Resistance Movement (NRM) National Chairman, has reshuffled the party's top decision-making organ, the Central Executive Committee (CEC), bringing back experienced party stalwarts while elevating first-term legislator Hon. Charity Lenia to the influential leadership body.

During a CEC meeting held at State House, Entebbe, on Friday, members approved four of the five nominees presented by the party chairman. The approved appointees are former Prime Minister Dr.

Ruhakana Rugunda, veteran politician Magode Ikuya, former Makerere University Business School Principal Prof. Waswa Balunywa, and Hon. Charity Lenia, the Member of Parliament for Vurra County in Arua District.

Hon. Charity Lenia's appointment marks a significant milestone for both West Nile and the NRM, making her one of the youngest leaders entrusted with shaping the party's strategic direction at the highest level. Her elevation has been widely viewed as recognition of emerging leadership and the party's commitment to nurturing a new generation of leaders.

The return of Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, one of Uganda's longest-serving public servants, underscores the continued confidence the NRM places in experienced leaders.

Rugunda previously served as Prime Minister from 2014 to 2021 and has held several key national and international positions, including Minister of Internal Affairs, Minister of Health, and Uganda's Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
