As the #ExposeTheCorrupt campaign continues, attention is turning to the expected coming of Hon. Dr. Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, Minister of Local Government, to Pakwach.

The Pakwach MWA Forum, a social media platform with about 1,000 participants in Pakwach District, had one of its influencers expected to provide live updates on the Minister’s engagements to the WhatsApp group.

However, the influencer reportedly went silent during the live WhatsApp chat shortly after data had been initiated for him to facilitate the live updates. The sudden silence left many participants wondering what had happened and why the anticipated updates had not come through.

With the Minister’s visit attracting significant public interest, forum members are now waiting to see what unfolds and whether the promised live coverage will resume.

BALAAM TO LEAD ANTI-CORRUPTION BARAZA IN PAKWACH

Pakwach, Uganda — Thursday

The Minister of Local Government, Hon. Dr. Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, under the Patriotic League umbrella, is expected in Pakwach District on Thursday to lead an Anti-Corruption Baraza aimed at addressing concerns surrounding corruption and service delivery.


All district and sub-county officials, together with communities across Jonam County, are expected to attend the Baraza and raise issues affecting their communities.


The engagement is expected to provide a platform for citizens to speak openly about corruption, accountability and the management of public resources, while seeking practical solutions to persistent challenges.


The visit has attracted attention from local leaders and residents who are looking forward to a firm message on accountability and better service delivery.
Hon. Marshall Godfrey Alenyo is among the leaders associated with the mobilisation and engagement surrounding the Baraza.

HON ACAMFUA RENEWS ZOMBO ROAD CALL AS HON SONGA’S LONGSTANDING PARLIAMENTARY PUSH CONTINUES

Kampala, 11 August 2026 — The long-standing campaign for the construction of the Nebbi–Goli–Paidha–Zombo–Zeu–Warr–Vurra road has received renewed attention in Parliament, with Zombo District Woman Member of Parliament Hon. Topista Acamfua calling on government to make the project a priority.


Acamfua's appeal comes against the backdrop of repeated parliamentary interventions on the same road during the 11th Parliament, where former Oraa County Member of Parliament Hon. Biyika Laurence Songa consistently raised the matter and pressed government to address the poor state of the road.


During her recent contribution to the parliamentary debate, Acamfua acknowledged government interventions in education and health in Zombo but argued that the road remains one of the district's most urgent infrastructure priorities.


She said the route has been a longstanding concern for the people of Zombo and the wider Alur community, with successive government commitments yet to translate into the full construction of the road.


Acamfua also referred to the President's visit to Zombo on 11 October 2025, during which she said residents were informed that construction would commence in April 2026. She called for clarification on the status of the promised works.


The legislator further urged government to consider financing the road under any forthcoming borrowing programme, saying improved connectivity would significantly support trade, transportation and access to social services.


Concerns Over Nyagak Bridge
Acamfua also drew Parliament's attention to the condition of bridges along the route, particularly the Nyagak River Bridge, following a road accident on 23 February 2026 in which a commuter taxi plunged into the river.


She questioned whether the bridge, constructed under an older design approximately two decades ago, is adequately suited to the current volume and nature of traffic.


According to Acamfua, the route has six bridges, with two reportedly receiving attention in the neighbouring Vurra area while four bridges on the Zombo section remain unattended.


She therefore called for a comprehensive assessment and rehabilitation of the bridges alongside the proposed road construction.
The renewed parliamentary appeal highlights that the Zombo road is not a new issue in Parliament, but a longstanding infrastructure concern that has featured repeatedly during the 11th Parliament, including sustained advocacy by former Ora County MP Hon. Laurence Songa Biyika.


With the issue now being raised by the current Zombo District Woman MP, attention is once again on government to provide a clear roadmap for the road's construction and the rehabilitation of the bridges along the route.

Jonam MP Reaffirms Commitment to Clean Environment

HON. MARSHALL ALENYO RAISES FISHERIES ENFORCEMENT CONCERNS DURING TRIBUTE TO GEN. MOSES ALI

Hon. Marshall Alenyo O.O, Member of Parliament for Jonam County, used his tribute to the late Rt. Hon. Gen. (Rtd.) Moses Ali in Parliament to draw attention to the ongoing fisheries enforcement operations affecting fishing communities in the West Nile region.


During the tribute session, Hon. Alenyo appealed for a more humane approach to the operations, urging authorities to protect the livelihoods of local fishermen while enforcing fisheries regulations.


Following his intervention, regional leaders engaged the Prime Minister and the Deputy Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) on the matter. The discussions yielded assurances that the concerns raised would be addressed.


According to the update, Deputy CDF Maj. Gen. Francis Okiding pledged to engage marine enforcement officers on the ground, directing them to prioritize sensitization and public awareness before resorting to the destruction of boats and fishing gear.

The Woman Member of Parliament for Terego District and Vice Chairperson of the West Nile Parliamentary Caucus, Hon. Rose Obigah, has called for continued Cabinet representation for the West Nile sub-region following the death of veteran statesman Rt. Hon. Gen. (Rtd.) Moses Ali.


Speaking during a special parliamentary sitting held to pay tribute to the late Gen. Moses Ali, Hon. Obigah emphasized that West Nile has consistently demonstrated its political loyalty to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the National Resistance Movement (NRM), and therefore deserves to maintain a strong voice at the highest level of government.


In her tribute, she noted that with the passing of Gen. Moses Ali who served for decades as one of the region's most influential leaders and a senior Cabinet minister,West Nile has lost its principal link to the Cabinet.


Hon. Obigah appealed to President Museveni to ensure that the region continues to have a representative in Cabinet, saying the appointment would safeguard West Nile's interests and ensure that the concerns and aspirations of its people continue to be heard and addressed by the central government.


She further acknowledged the late Gen. Moses Ali's immense contribution to national unity, peace, and the socio-economic transformation of West Nile, describing him as a statesman whose leadership created a lasting bridge between the region and the national leadership.

The question was widely interpreted as President Museveni recalling the late Ezrom William Alenyo O.O., the former Local Council V (LCV) Chairperson of the then Nebbi District, before the creation of Zombo and Pakwach districts. HON. LINOS NGOMPEK PROPOSES MANDATORY HEALTHCARE UNITS IN ALL SCHOOLS AS PARLIAMENTARY SITTING ALSO DRAWS ATTENTION OVER SLEEPING MP

Hon. Linos Ngompek, the Member of Parliament for Kibanda North, has proposed a policy that would require every school in Uganda to establish a fully operational healthcare unit staffed by a qualified laboratory technician and equipped with basic medical testing equipment.


While contributing during parliamentary proceedings, Hon. Ngompek said schools should no longer rely solely on nearby health facilities for basic medical services. He argued that learners spend a significant portion of their day at school and should have access to prompt medical assessment and treatment whenever health concerns arise.


According to the proposal, school health units would be expected to conduct basic laboratory tests, provide first-line medical care, detect illnesses early, and refer complicated cases to higher-level health facilities where necessary. The proposal is intended to strengthen disease surveillance, reduce absenteeism caused by preventable illnesses, and improve the overall health and safety of learners and school staff.
The proposal generated discussion among Members of Parliament, with several legislators acknowledging the importance of strengthening healthcare services within educational institutions as part of improving the quality of education and safeguarding students' welfare.


However, the day's sitting also attracted public attention for a lighter moment after one Member of Parliament appeared to fall asleep during the proceedings. The legislator was observed sitting quietly with eyes closed for several minutes before what appeared to be audible snoring drew the attention of nearby colleagues.


The incident quickly became a subject of conversation both within the parliamentary chamber and on social media, where clips and reactions circulated widely. Some online users reacted with humor, while others viewed the episode as an illustration of the physical demands placed on legislators, whose schedules often include long committee meetings, constituency engagements, and extended plenary sittings.


Despite the distraction, the Speaker did not interrupt the proceedings specifically over the incident, and parliamentary business continued as Members proceeded with debate on legislative matters.
