A poignant moment marked Parliament's special sitting on Tuesday as President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni joined Members of Parliament and other national leaders in paying tribute to the late Rt. Hon. Gen. (Rtd.) Moses Ali, one of Uganda's longest-serving statesmen.


As the President greeted legislators before the tribute proceedings, he paused upon meeting Hon. Marshall Alenyo O.O., the Member of Parliament for Jonam County, and asked, "Are you the one called Marshall Alenyo?"


The question was widely interpreted as President Museveni recalling the late Ezrom William Alenyo O.O., the former Local Council V (LCV) Chairperson of the then Nebbi District, before the creation of Zombo and Pakwach districts. The late Ezrom William Alenyo O.O. was a prominent local government leader whose service extended across the wider Nebbi region, now comprising Nebbi, Zombo, and Pakwach districts.
Standing alongside Hon. Marshall Alenyo during the exchange was Hon. Akumu Catherine Mavenjina, the Member of Parliament representing Older Persons, who was also attending the parliamentary tribute.


The brief interaction drew attention from those present, serving as a reminder of the enduring legacy of veteran leaders whose contributions to public service continue to be recognised at the highest levels of government.


The exchange occurred during an emotional parliamentary session dedicated to honouring the life and legacy of Gen. Moses Ali, whose decades of service to Uganda as a freedom fighter, Cabinet Minister, and former Second Deputy Prime Minister were celebrated by leaders across the political spectrum.


The moment added a personal historical dimension to the day's proceedings, highlighting the continuity of leadership and the lasting impact of families that have contributed to Uganda's governance over generations.

The Member of Parliament for Jonam Constituency, Hon. Marshall Alenyo O.O, has joined leaders across Uganda in mourning the passing of Rt. Hon. Gen. (Rtd.) Moses Ali, describing him as a distinguished patriot, freedom fighter, and one of the country's most respected elder statesmen.


In a tribute shared on his official X account, Hon. Alenyo expressed profound sorrow over the death of the veteran politician and military leader, noting that Uganda has lost a leader whose lifetime was devoted to national service, peace, and patriotism.


"It is with great sadness that I received the news of the passing of Rt. Hon. Gen. Moses Ali, a distinguished patriot, freedom fighter, and one of Uganda's most experienced statesmen," Hon. Alenyo stated.


On behalf of the people of Jonam Constituency and in his personal capacity, the legislator extended heartfelt condolences to the people of Adjumani West, the Madi sub-region, the entire West Nile region, the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) fraternity, the bereaved family, friends, and all Ugandans mourning the fallen statesman.

HON. PHIONA NYAMUTORO MOURNS RT. HON. DR. GEN. (RTD.) MOSES ALI, HAILS HIS ENDURING LEGACY OF PEACE AND SERVICE.

The State Minister for Energy and Mineral Development and Woman Member of Parliament for Nebbi District, Hon. Phiona Nyamutoro, has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Rt. Hon. Alhaji Dr. Gen. (Rtd.) Moses Ali, describing him as a towering statesman, a steadfast patriot, and one of the greatest architects of peace and development in the West Nile sub-region.


In her moving eulogy, Hon. Nyamutoro said the passing of Moses Ali marks the end of an extraordinary chapter in Uganda's political history, noting that his unwavering commitment to serving his people remained evident until his final days.


"The Cock of West Nile has gone to sleep. A true statesman and a good shepherd of his people. He was the orchestra of peace in our land, laying a foundation upon which generations have grown. Even in frailty, he never lost sight of a better West Nile. Until his last breath, his people remained the badge he wore with pride."
Hon. Nyamutoro fondly recalled a deeply personal moment that reflected the late leader's humility and fatherly character.


"I will never forget that you were the first guest to arrive at my thanksgiving ceremony following my appointment. You came bearing gifts and patiently waited for me so that I could receive them from your hands, together with your prayers and blessings after the function. That gesture spoke volumes about the kind of leader and father you were."


She praised Moses Ali for his lifelong dedication to national unity, peacebuilding, and mentorship, saying his influence stretched far beyond public office and inspired countless leaders across generations.
Hon. Nyamutoro noted that while the nation mourns the loss of an iconic leader, his enduring legacy of selfless service, wisdom, and commitment to the people of West Nile and Uganda will continue to inspire future generations.


"We are grateful for the impact we witnessed through your leadership and for the countless stories that testify to your remarkable life of service. You fought a good fight, served with distinction, and left behind a legacy that will never be forgotten."
She concluded by extending her deepest condolences to the family of the late Moses Ali, the people of Adjumani West, the West Nile sub-region, and the entire nation, praying that God grants him eternal rest.

Children's Lives at Risk: Overloaded School Van Sparks Renewed Calls for Stricter Road Safety Enforcement

A school van transporting pupils under dangerously overcrowded conditions was intercepted on Wednesday morning, raising fresh concerns over the safety of schoolchildren on Uganda's roads.


The interception was made by Dr. Lakisa Mercy Faith, who described the incident as a serious reminder of the dangers posed by negligence in the transportation of pupils.
Speaking after the operation, Dr. Lakisa emphasized that the safety of children must remain a top priority and urged the Traffic Police to intensify enforcement of road safety regulations, particularly against school vehicles operating beyond their legal carrying capacity.


"Our children's safety is non-negotiable," she stated, calling on authorities to take firm action against schools and drivers who endanger the lives of pupils through overloading.
She further appealed to school proprietors, headteachers, and drivers to prioritize the welfare of children over convenience or profit.


"Children are not cargo. They are the future of Uganda. No convenience is worth a child's life," she said.
The incident has renewed public debate on the need for stricter monitoring of school transport services, with stakeholders urging schools to comply with safety standards to prevent avoidable road accidents.


Road safety advocates continue to call for regular inspections of school vehicles and tougher penalties for operators found violating traffic regulations in order to safeguard the lives of learners.

From Graduation to Greater Service: A New Chapter Begins

On 17th July 2026, I will celebrate one of the most significant milestones of my life as I graduate in Public Administration and Management. This achievement represents far more than the award of an academic qualification.
it is the culmination of years of perseverance, sacrifice, discipline, and an unwavering belief that education is a powerful tool for transforming individuals, communities, and nations.


My academic journey has taught me that true leadership is founded on integrity, accountability, transparency, and selfless service. Every lecture attended, every assignment completed, and every challenge overcome has strengthened my conviction that public administration is not merely a profession but a calling to serve people with honesty, fairness, and dedication.


As I mark this important occasion, I also extend my congratulations to Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), for his commitment to the fight against corruption in Uganda. Corruption continues to undermine development, weaken public institutions, and deny citizens the quality of services they deserve. Efforts to promote accountability, transparency, and responsible leadership are essential for building a stronger and more prosperous nation.


As a committed member of PLU, I consider my graduation not as the end of an academic journey but as the beginning of a greater responsibility. The knowledge and skills I have acquired in Public Administration and Management have equipped me with a deeper understanding of ethical governance, policy implementation, institutional accountability, and effective public service. I remain committed to applying these principles in my personal and professional life and to supporting lawful and constructive efforts that promote integrity, accountability, and good governance for the benefit of all Ugandans.


This achievement would not have been possible without the support of my family, lecturers, mentors, classmates, friends, and everyone who believed in my potential. Their encouragement transformed obstacles into opportunities and inspired me to remain focused on my goals.


As I walk across the graduation stage on 17th July 2026, I do so with humility, gratitude, and a renewed commitment to serve my country with professionalism and integrity. The certificate I receive will symbolize years of hard work, but its true value will be measured by how I use the knowledge gained to contribute positively to Uganda's development.


Graduation is not the destination,it is the beginning of a lifelong journey of learning, leadership, and service. With faith, determination, and a deep sense of national duty, I look forward to playing my part in building a more accountable, transparent, and prosperous Uganda for present and future generations.

Nebbi Diocese Celebrates Historic Ordination of Five Deacons and Six Priests at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral

Thousands of Christians from across Nebbi Diocese and beyond gathered yesterday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, Nebbi, for a solemn and joyous Eucharistic celebration during which Rt. Rev. Dr. Constantine Rupiny, Bishop of Nebbi Diocese, ordained five seminarians to the Diaconate and six deacons to the Holy Priesthood.


The celebration brought together clergy, religious men and women, government officials, cultural leaders, families of the ordinands, and faithful from various parishes, all united in witnessing this significant milestone in the life of the Catholic Church.


In his homily, Bishop Rupiny urged the newly ordained ministers to embrace humility, prayer, integrity, and selfless service. He reminded them that the vocation to the priesthood and diaconate is a sacred calling that demands steadfast commitment to proclaiming the Gospel, serving God’s people, and becoming instruments of peace, hope, and reconciliation in their communities.


The ordination was marked by prayer, thanksgiving, and celebration as the faithful welcomed the new deacons and priests into their respective ministries. Family members and well-wishers expressed gratitude to God for the gift of vocations, describing the occasion as a blessing not only to Nebbi Diocese but also to the Universal Church.


Among the distinguished guests in attendance was Hon. Biyika Lawrence Songa, who joined the faithful in celebrating the newly ordained clergy. He congratulated the ordinands and commended Nebbi Diocese for its continued commitment to nurturing vocations and strengthening the spiritual foundation of society.

Hon. Marshall Alenyoo Presses Government on Jonam–UWA Boundary Dispute and Deadly Crocodile Attacks

Hon. Marshall has continued to champion the concerns of communities living along the River Nile by raising two urgent matters on the floor of Parliament: the long-standing boundary dispute between Jonam County and the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), and the increasing threat of crocodile attacks on residents.


Addressing Parliament, Hon. Alenyoo called on the Prime Minister to issue a government statement on the unresolved boundary dispute between Jonam County and UWA. He noted that the prolonged uncertainty has fueled land ownership conflicts, disrupted livelihoods, and created anxiety among affected communities, underscoring the need for a clear and lasting government intervention.


The legislator also drew Parliament's attention to a recent crocodile attack in the constituency represented by Hon Nyamutoro. , where three individuals were reportedly attacked and they are in the hospital admitted. He urged the Government to take immediate measures to protect communities living along the River Nile, stressing that the recurring human-wildlife conflict poses a serious threat to lives and livelihoods.


Hon. Alenyoo appealed for urgent action to strengthen public safety, support affected families, and implement lasting measures to reduce crocodile attacks while promoting peaceful coexistence between surrounding communities and wildlife conservation authorities.


His interventions reaffirm his commitment to ensuring that the concerns of riverine communities receive national attention and that practical government solutions are pursued through Parliament.
