HON. MARSHALL ALENYO RAISES FISHERIES ENFORCEMENT CONCERNS DURING TRIBUTE TO GEN. MOSES ALI

Hon. Marshall Alenyo O.O, Member of Parliament for Jonam County, used his tribute to the late Rt. Hon. Gen. (Rtd.) Moses Ali in Parliament to draw attention to the ongoing fisheries enforcement operations affecting fishing communities in the West Nile region.


During the tribute session, Hon. Alenyo appealed for a more humane approach to the operations, urging authorities to protect the livelihoods of local fishermen while enforcing fisheries regulations.


Following his intervention, regional leaders engaged the Prime Minister and the Deputy Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) on the matter. The discussions yielded assurances that the concerns raised would be addressed.


According to the update, Deputy CDF Maj. Gen. Francis Okiding pledged to engage marine enforcement officers on the ground, directing them to prioritize sensitization and public awareness before resorting to the destruction of boats and fishing gear.


Leaders welcomed the commitment, emphasizing that fisheries enforcement should be conducted with restraint, dignity, and respect for the welfare of fishing communities.


They expressed hope that the concerns raised by Hon. Marshall Alenyo both on the floor of Parliament and through subsequent engagements would receive the urgency and seriousness they deserve, ensuring that conservation efforts do not leave communities in desperation and hopelessness.

The Member of Parliament for Jonam Constituency, Hon. Marshall Alenyo O.O, has joined leaders across Uganda in mourning the passing of Rt. Hon. Gen. (Rtd.) Moses Ali, describing him as a distinguished patriot, freedom fighter, and one of the country's most respected elder statesmen.


In a tribute shared on his official X account, Hon. Alenyo expressed profound sorrow over the death of the veteran politician and military leader, noting that Uganda has lost a leader whose lifetime was devoted to national service, peace, and patriotism.


"It is with great sadness that I received the news of the passing of Rt. Hon. Gen. Moses Ali, a distinguished patriot, freedom fighter, and one of Uganda's most experienced statesmen," Hon. Alenyo stated.

Ministry Orders Nationwide Street and Road Naming to Improve Emergency Response

The Ministry of Local Government has directed all Chief Administrative Officers (CAOs), City Town Clerks, and Municipal Town Clerks to immediately begin naming streets and roads across Uganda's urban local governments as part of efforts to strengthen emergency response and improve physical planning.


According to a circular issued by Permanent Secretary Ben Kumumanya, the directive follows concerns raised by security agencies over difficulties in locating emergency incidents in real time due to the absence of officially named roads and streets.


The ministry has instructed all urban councils to complete the naming exercise by 30 August 2026, starting with the country's 10 cities and 31 municipalities before extending it to all town councils.


Local governments have been advised to assign names that reflect personalities and landmarks of strategic significance within their respective areas, promoting both easier identification and preservation of local heritage.


The Ministry emphasized that the road and street naming initiative is a key component of proper physical planning and is expected to improve coordination during emergencies, enhance service delivery, and support urban development.
The directive takes immediate effect, with all affected local governments expected to implement the exercise within the stipulated timeline.

Nebbi Diocese Celebrates Historic Ordination of Five Deacons and Six Priests at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral

Thousands of Christians from across Nebbi Diocese and beyond gathered yesterday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, Nebbi, for a solemn and joyous Eucharistic celebration during which Rt. Rev. Dr. Constantine Rupiny, Bishop of Nebbi Diocese, ordained five seminarians to the Diaconate and six deacons to the Holy Priesthood.


The celebration brought together clergy, religious men and women, government officials, cultural leaders, families of the ordinands, and faithful from various parishes, all united in witnessing this significant milestone in the life of the Catholic Church.


In his homily, Bishop Rupiny urged the newly ordained ministers to embrace humility, prayer, integrity, and selfless service. He reminded them that the vocation to the priesthood and diaconate is a sacred calling that demands steadfast commitment to proclaiming the Gospel, serving God’s people, and becoming instruments of peace, hope, and reconciliation in their communities.


The ordination was marked by prayer, thanksgiving, and celebration as the faithful welcomed the new deacons and priests into their respective ministries. Family members and well-wishers expressed gratitude to God for the gift of vocations, describing the occasion as a blessing not only to Nebbi Diocese but also to the Universal Church.

PLU Unveils New Central Executive Committee as Calls for Inclusive Regional Representation Emerge

The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has officially unveiled its new Central Executive Committee (CEC), ushering in a leadership team expected to steer the organisation's strategic direction and strengthen its grassroots mobilisation across the country.


The newly constituted CEC is headed by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba as National Chairman, with Michael Nuwagira (Toyota) serving as Vice Chairman and Rt. Hon. Twalla Fadil taking on the role of Secretary General.
The committee brings together a blend of experienced political leaders, public servants, legal professionals, entrepreneurs, and opinion leaders.


Among its members are Hon. Jane Ruth Aceng, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, Rt. Hon. Oboth Oboth, Hon. Kiryowa Kiwanuka, Hon. Lillian Abor, Hon. Sanjay Tanna, Hon. Kwamwe Ruyondo, Hon. A supporter from the West Nile Sub-region congratulated the newly appointed CEC members but appealed to the party leadership to consider the region for representation on the organisation's highest decision-making body.
