Atyak seed secondary school administration, Leaders and parents across West Nile have initiated a plan to construct a modern dormitory to accommodate over 200 girls.

Atyak Seed Secondary School is one of seed schools established by the government and started operations in 6th May 2022. It attracted high enrollment raising demand for dormitories for students.

The contract was awarded to Café Engineering Works Limited, which is expected to deliver the work within this first term while some students are being house in some teachers’ quarters and some classrooms

The construction team headed who doubled as chairman fundraising drive; Maj. Gen. Dick Ulum Print unveiled architectural design and the Bill of Quantity (BOQ) at a tune shs 166,000,000 intended to complete the dormitory.

Maj. Gen. Ulum says they are raising the funds from friends, while parents are required to pau shs 50,000 to support the efforts that will see girls are accommodated in school in second term.

The headteacher, Ucwiyuwun Winnifred observed that girls are exposed to community social issues emphasizing, the dormitory will safeguard the girls from the errant community members.

“We are grappling with social issues, such as teenage pregnancy. You find out in our suggestion box students are writing things that suggest social issues so we feel that if a dormitory is in place it will solve this”. Winnifred

Speaking to the leader, Eng. Candia Erick of the Café Engineering limited, appealed to the team to ensure sand, stones, aggregates and bricks to be delivered to the site before the rainy season hits.

For the commencement of works, at least on Saturday, the team realized shillings shs 9.316,000, pledges shs 38.495.000, to be collected this month, 22 bags of Cement, 2 iron sheets and 10 trips of Sands to be delivered to the site as the work is in progress.

Among notable leaders who are supporting this work are the native of Zombo district, such as Member of Parliament for ora county who doubled as chairman Climate Change committee, Lawrence Biyika Songa, Woman MP for Zombo district, Okoro county MP Gabriel Ukumu, Denis Olyeko aspiring candidate for Padyere county Nebbi district and Bishop Sanctus Lino Wanok.

MP Songa for his part during the fundraising on Saturday rallied the community around Atak seed to embrace education since they are blessed with a good school and effort by the government.

“It is true that this school has challenges, ranging from lack of electricity, water, dormitories and fences, so some can be addressed by us while others by the government”. MP Songa observed

Songa also told the school headteacher to write to the PS for the school to be connected to electricity and water.

The Zombo district LCV Chairman James Uyulu Uruna confirmed the challenges at the school and assured teamwork to deliver the dormitory in time.
