The government launched urgent infrastructure development in Zombo District, focusing on murram pouring and rehabilitation of deteriorated sections of impassable roads under central government jurisdiction.

The  Friday, August 22, 2025  response follows prolonged heavy rainfall that worsened road conditions, stranding heavy-duty trucks for weeks.

Repair works are currently underway at the Ayuda incline in Abanga Sub-County, though challenges persist at Nyagak hill in Nyapea Sub-County. 

Francis Bolingo, District Councillor of Athuma Sub-County, criticized the temporary measures, stating, "We need a permanent solution by tarmacking the road. These repairs won’t solve the problem."

Sarah Adong, Zombo Woman MP Aspirant on the DP ticket, shared a video of herself struggling through a muddy section of Nyagak hill, posting, "Ladies and gentlemen, the plight of Zombo calls for a holistic approach beyond political lines and differences." She urged action ahead of the 2026 elections, questioning, "Should we remain the same? Should we stay silent? Should cliques just fight for supremacy over Zombo’s agenda?"

The deplorable state of central government roads has sparked widespread attention, with residents, young and old, voicing concerns fearlessly. 

Youths have taken to social media, sharing images and videos of people, vehicles, and motorcycles struggling through muddy roads, highlighting the urgent need for infrastructure development.

Former Okoro County MP, Eng. Simon D’Ujanga, revealed in a recent interview that the Ministry of Finance diverted funds allocated for tarmacking the 119km Nebbi-Goli-Paidha-Zombo-Zeu-Warr-Vurra road three times during his tenure.

Public frustration over the poor condition of this critical route continues unabated.President Museveni has repeatedly pledged to tarmac the Nebbi-Goli-Paidha-Zombo-Zeu-Warr-Vurra road, including promises made in Zombo in 2022, Nebbi in 2024, and earlier this year in Yumbe District, yet no specific timelines for the infrastructure development have been provided.
