The Territorial Police in Pakwach are investigating a deadly road traffic collision that occurred at approximately 01:40 AM in Nyapolo Village, Alwi Sub-County, along the Pakwach-Arua Highway. 

The incident claimed three lives instantly and left two individuals with serious injuries, who are currently receiving treatment at Pakwach Health Centre IV.

According to a statement by West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson SP Jimmy Anguyo Baiga, the collision involved a white Toyota Double Cabin (Reg. No. UBF 850H), owned by Muni University and driven by the late Acidri Kennedy, and a SINO Truck (Reg. No. UAW 523Z), operated by China 18th Railway Construction Company, with the driver yet to be identified.

SP Anguyo identified the deceased as Rev. Acema Patrick, University Chaplain; Acidri Kennedy, the driver of the Muni University vehicle; and Opio Washington, Sports Officer at the institution. 

The bodies have been conveyed to Pakwach Health Centre IV for postmortem examination, meanwhile the two injured occupants, identified as Oriba Bruno and Enayo Victor, were also transported to Pakwach Health Centre IV for urgent medical attention.

Preliminary investigations suggest the Muni University vehicle was traveling from Kampala to Arua on official duty when it was involved in the fatal head-on collision, resulting in the immediate loss of three lives and critical injuries to the survivors.

According to the 2024 Uganda Police Annual Crime Report, while common traffic violations decreased by 19.2% from 528,025 cases in 2023 to 426,432 in 2024, road traffic collisions have risen by 6.4%, with casualties increasing by 4.4%. The report highlights that the peak time for road traffic incidents is between 18:00 and 19:59, with 3,780 collisions recorded during this period, underscoring the persistent risks faced by drivers and pedestrians on Uganda’s roads.
