Violence erupted in Jurum East Village, Dzaipi Sub-County on Wednesday afternoon when supporters of incumbent LCV Chairman Anyama Ben allegedly attacked the campaign team of opposition candidate Anyanzo John Ambayo, police said.

Police say the incident occurred at around 1:00 PM as Mr Ambayo’s convoy, en route to a scheduled Electoral Commission-approved rally, first encountered a roadblock made of logs deliberately placed across the road by unknown persons. After clearing the obstruction, the team proceeded to the venue only to be pelted with stones shortly after the rally began.

North West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson SP Asea Collins confirmed the incident saying, Four of Ambayo’s supporters were injured in the assault while five campaign vehicles – registration numbers UA 566AZ, UA 356BE, UBF 098T, UBF 956F and UBG 918H – sustained broken windows and body damage.

He added that , Ambayo’s team managed to overpower and detain three suspected attackers at the scene before handing them over to police.

The suspects are currently detained at Adjumani Central Police Station on charges of malicious damage, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and related electoral offences (CRB 719/2025).

The injured victims have been issued Police Form 3 for medical examination, statements recorded, and the damaged vehicles documented as exhibits.

Spokesperson SP Asea confirmed the arrests and warned political actors against violence, stating that investigations are ongoing and more arrests are expected.

The incident has heightened political tensions in the district ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
