Zombo District has scheduled Wednesday, March 26, 2026, as the date for its belated commemoration of International Women’s Day.

The event will take place at Zombo Lower Primary School playground in Zombo Town Council.

In a press release issued on March 17, 2026, Zombo District Communication Officer Alex Pithua announced the arrangements.

 He highlighted that the Uganda Association of Women Lawyers (FIDA-Uganda), commonly known as FIDA Uganda, will extend its mobile legal clinic to deliver free legal services to community members attending the function.

“FIDA will provide free legal services to the community by extending its mobile legal clinic; therefore, community members are encouraged to attend the function in large numbers,” Pithua stated, urging widespread public participation.

FIDA-Uganda is a leading feminist non-governmental organization founded in 1974. As a membership-based group of women lawyers and a registered NGO since 1999, it focuses on advancing women's rights, promoting gender equality, and enhancing access to justice through legal aid, public education, and community outreach across multiple districts in Uganda.

This year's global International Women’s Day, observed on March 8, carried the theme “Scaling up Investment to Accelerate Access to Justice for All Women and Girls in Uganda.” 

The Zombo event aligns with ongoing efforts to address these priorities locally.

During a recent planning meeting with development partners, Zombo District Community Development Officer Samuel Ocaki stressed the need for collaborative action to eliminate gender-based violence against women and girls and to strengthen GBV referral pathways for improved access to justice and support services.

Topista Acamfua, the Woman Member of Parliament-elect for Zombo District, encouraged broad attendance in an earlier interview.

“We should use the day to honor women who are working day and night in the markets, gardens, offices to make ends meet,” she said. “Let’s not use the day to boast over men but should rather work together to support each other in families and homes.”

Eunice Kayeny, Minister of Gender and Culture in Omua Chiefdom, Paidha, affirmed readiness for the event and called for empowering women through education: “We are ready for the day; we call upon our fellow women to empower our gender by sending them to schools.”

His Majesty Ubimu Phillip Rauni Ularker III, the King of Alur, expressed deep appreciation for Alur women and mothers: “We thank you for your strength, wisdom, and the vital role you play in our families, culture, and community. Thank you for being the heart of the community.”

The belated celebration is anticipated to convene a diverse gathering, including local residents, development partners, learners, financial service providers, cultural institutions, and religious leaders.

International Women’s Day is commemorated annually on March 8 to recognize women's achievements and advocate for gender equality.
