A man is fighting for his life after his wife only identified as Prisca, allegedly cut his genitals during a domestic dispute at Mvule Cell, Central Ward, Paidha Town Council in Zombo District.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, around 9:00 a.m.

The victim, whose name is being withheld, told this publication in an interview on June 19 at his home that his wife had spent the entire night away from home. She returned in the morning accompanied by two men. When he questioned her, the two men fled. He then quarreled with his wife, but the matter appeared to end after a short time.

Shortly afterward, while he was resting on the bed, his wife allegedly attacked him with a knife and cut his genitals, causing profuse bleeding.

The victim said his wife identified only as Prisca , said to be in her 30s, fled the scene after the attack.

"She pounced on me, cut my genitals with a very long knife while I was resting on the bed. I raised an alarm and she fled. I was later rushed to the health facility," the victim said.

He added, "We have been married for four years now, yet she has not given birth to any child for me."

"I am appealing for support because I have no money. The complications are too much, and I don’t know how to handle this treatment as the bill is becoming too high," he disclosed.

The suspect has since been arrested by locals and is detained at Paidha Central Police Station.

Othembi David Dozomolo, Vice LCI Chairperson of Mvule Cell, confirmed the incident, adding the woman was later arrested in a neighbouring village and taken to Paidha Central Police Station.

“It is true that the man’s genitals were cut, though it was not completely cut off. He is badly injured and the woman has been arrested,” Othembi stated.

He cautioned residents against hosting clients or tenants without registering them with local council leaders, noting that the couple had been staying in the cell without proper records.

The victim’s mother expressed shock at the incident, saying the family is struggling to manage her son’s treatment due to the severity of his injuries and the pain he is enduring.

Attempts to get a comment from police were unsuccessful by press time.

The incident comes amid rising fatalities from domestic violence in Uganda. At least 208 people were killed in domestic violence incidents across the country in 2025, up from 183 deaths in 2024 , a 13.7 percent increase, according to the Uganda Police Force Annual Crime Report 2025.

The report indicates that the rise in deaths occurred despite a decline in reported Gender-Based Violence (GBV) cases, which dropped by 12.2 percent from 14,073 in 2024 to 12,361 in 2025.

Sex-related offences also fell by 12.6 percent from 14,425 to 12,606 cases.

Police recorded 12,700 victims of sex-related offences, with 10,654 being female juveniles, highlighting that girls remain the most affected group.

The report notes that while reported GBV incidents declined, gender-based violence continues to pose a serious public safety and human rights challenge.
