Aringa Kingdom Mourns Gen. Moses Ali, Hails His Legacy of Peace and Service

Aringa Kingdom has joined the Government of Uganda, the people of West Nile, the Nubian community and the family of Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali in mourning the death of the veteran statesman, describing him as a champion of peace, reconciliation and national service.
In a statement issued on Monday, Hon. Wohainad Ali Aluma, the Envoy of Aringa Kingdom to the Central Government, Foreign Missions, Non-Governmental Organizations and Buganda Kingdom, said the Kingdom received the news of the former Second Deputy Prime Minister's death with profound sorrow.
The Kingdom extended condolences to President Yoweri Museveni, Parliament, the Government of Uganda, the bereaved family, the Ugandan Nubian Council of Elders, the people of Adjumani District and the wider West Nile region.
"General Moses Ali's life was a testament to service, courage and reconciliation. He chose the path of dialogue and laid down arms so that the people of West Nile might know peace," the statement reads.
Aringa Kingdom praised the late general for his decades of public service, saying his efforts helped restore peace in West Nile and strengthened national unity. It also described him as a pillar of the Muslim community and a respected elder who dedicated his life to serving Uganda.
The Kingdom prayed that Allah grants the late general eternal peace in Jannatul Firdaus and gives strength to his family and all those mourning his passing.
Background
Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali, Uganda's longest-serving Cabinet minister, former Second Deputy Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for Adjumani West, died on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala at the age of 87 after a period of ill health.
He served Uganda for more than five decades as a soldier, rebel leader, peacemaker and senior government official, playing a key role in peace-building and the development of the West Nile region.
The government accorded him a state funeral. Following national tributes and official ceremonies, Gen. Moses Ali is scheduled to be laid to rest in Adjumani District on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, according to the revised state funeral programme announced by government.
