Motorcyclist Killed by Congolese Truck in Zombo District

A motorcyclist was fatally struck by a truck registered in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on Monday evening along the Pakadha–Padea Road in Zombo District.
Albert Onega, a resident of Zombo Town Council who traded in mobile chicken hawking using his motorcycle, died in the crash that occurred at about 7:20 p.m. on Monday, September 8, 2026, at Jupaloza village in Serr Parish, Abanga Sub-county.
Onega was travelling from Padea Town Council towards Paidha Town Council when the incident took place.
According to Adriano Ocamker Ethien, the LC1 chairperson of Got Landi village, eyewitnesses said Onega was hit by an oncoming trailer as he attempted to overtake another truck ahead of him.
The truck involved in the fatal collision bore a DR Congo registration number.
“Those who witnessed the incident told me the deceased was hit by a truck coming ahead of him as he attempted to overtake a truck,” Ocamker said.
He also expressed concern over the poor and narrow condition of the road, which he said complicates the movement of trucks, pedestrians and motorcyclists.
Justine Oryem, the area councillor for Serr Parish, confirmed that police transferred Onega’s body to Paidha Health Centre III for a postmortem examination.
He cautioned road users against overspeeding and urged restraint given the current deplorable state of the road.
Police moved the truck to Padea Police Post.
Officers had not yet issued an official statement on the incident by the time of publication.
The Uganda Police Force Annual Crime Report 2025 indicated that 5,383 people lost their lives in road crashes that year, an average of about 15 deaths every day.
