Couple Killed by Lightning in Zombo

A woman and her husband were killed by lightning during a heavy downpour in Oguta Village, Mundhel Parish, Nyapea Sub-County, Zombo District, in the early hours of Thursday 10, September, 2026.
The deceased woman was identified as Adoku, while her husband was identified as Arua.
Eliot Odongo, the area councillor for Mundhel Parish, confirmed the incident, saying the woman’s relatives from Aringu in Atyak Sub-County had collected her body, while the man’s family from Erussi Sub-County was on its way to collect his remains.
The incident comes days after a woman survived a lightning strike in Serr Parish, Abanga Sub-County and about two months after eight people in Aka Sub-County were struck by lightning.
According to the Office of the Prime Minister's 2020 Annual State of Disaster Report, Uganda records about 70 lightning strikes per square kilometre each year, with an estimated 20–50 lightning-related deaths annually.
