Sarah Adong, who hails from Zombo district, West Nile sub-region of Uganda has been declared president for the Democratic Party’s (DP) Women Leagues in just concluded delegates conference held in Mbarara city.

Speaking to our journalist, Adong observed that this achievement gives her solidifying grounds to seek for the position of woman MP Zombo district and eventually announced her intention to bid for Zombo district woman member of parliament 2026 on DP ticket.

Adong adds that she was intentional to participate in the 2025 DP delegates conference election and her win is motivational adding “that women of Zombo district shouldn’t under rate themselves knowing that they can favorably compete in every political sphere.”

She also revealed that this great win in the DP election, is going to add to her trust among the electorate that she is a capable leader with lobby skills for development from partners.

“This will help strengthen my candidature for the Zombo Woman MP race, I was so intentional to go for this national platform and it will help me gain trust from the people of Zombo, they will know that I am capable of the position of woman MP.” Adong stressed during the p=interview with our reporter

In the 2021 election Adong who aspired for Zombo district woman race managed to get at least 17000 votes. She believes they can convert this into overwhelming votes in the 2026 election.

Adong is now the only opposition among a dozen young women who have declared intention for the race of woman MP for Zombo district on NRM ticket with ambition to oust incumbent Esther Afoyocan.

Norbert Mao secured a decisive victory, retaining his position as Democratic Party (DP) President General during a highly contentious national delegates’ conference in Mbarara City.

Mao garnered 969 votes, far ahead of his closest rival, Buikwe South MP, Dr. Michael Lulume Bayiga, who received 339 votes. Alitia Elia trailed in third place with just 52 votes.

In other key races, Dr. Gerald Siranda, Uganda’s representative to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), retained his role as DP Secretary General, defeating Ismael Kirya with 870 votes to 312.

Mukasa Mbidde ran unopposed for Vice President, while Babirye kept her position as Treasurer.

The Presiding Officer Kennedy Mutenyo was at the helm of the DP elections.
